I just got my intake off ebay so I though I'd put a couple pics up. The inlet is about 1.8 inches but it's all jaged. The pipe looks almost exactly like the Injen but its got some tiny pits in some places and a couple big ones. The inside is rough too. I dont know if the Injen is like that. So at 1/4 of the price of the Injen ($65), I think it's a pretty good deal. :thumb:

its rough because its cast, the injens are aluminum i think. doesnt make a difference. looks just as good imo.

I agree, for the money, i dont think you can beat it with a coat of paint it looks good to me. As far as it being rough inside, that doesnt bother me, I mean, think what the compressors gonna do to it once it gets there. IMO it'll get the job done just fine.

Well, I don't think I'd shell out 65 bones for that. Looks like its made of cast iron, and is pretty poor build quality - the welds look like junk. I was under the impression that the insides of intake components were supposed to be nice and smooth, not grooved and pitted. Oh well, too each his own. It will work...I guess. All just my opinions though.

its cast aluminum. the EXACT same thing the forced performance intakes are made from, which are also rough inside of course. No air is really being forced thru the intake, and the surface isnt that bad, so it wont effect it. The welds also arent that bad.

The welds are fine for what it is. You can just smooth out the inside with some sandpaper if need be. But to each his own...you go pay 250 bucks not including shipping for an injen intake and i'll pay my 60 shipped for the same thing. And it is aluminum just like the injen.

isn't the fp intake only 65 bucks? I guess an intake is an intake, but you can change the coupler on fp's intake when you finally get that turbo upgrade.

Meh. I don't have a $250 intake, nor do I want one. Personally I made mine out of some stainless mandrel bends I had laying around from my custom I/C piping, so it was somewhere around $15 if you want to get technical. I believe the injen one is made from aluminum, not cast aluminum (thanks for the correction anconover) by the way - so it is not just like injen. And yes, the welds do look like garbage.

BTW I'm not supporting INJEN in anyway, just saying for $65 you could have got the forced performance one (again like anconover said), which does look to be of better quality, plus you can have it flanged for whatever blow off valve you have.

there are alot of important peices on a DSM that need to be good brand named parts. but i peice of aluminum isnt gonna change if it has a injen stick on the top, seriously people think, ur paying $200+ for something that cost about .75 to make and dont give me that research and development. It a pipe with a filter like all intakes.

.

I can guarantee you injen intakes are cast aluminum........

it doesn't matter if you get this ebay one or the Injen or how smooth it is or how bad the welds are because you're not going to notice a difference either way (unless you're upgrading from the stock airbox).

It looks a little better in person. The pictures, especially the first ones, make it look like crap. I was just worried about any little bits coming off the inside and ramming into my compressor wheel. If I keep it I'll port the outlets and sand the inside. How do you guys know it's aluminum? I though it might be cause it's pretty light but I just didnt know. I agree that the quality probobly isn't as good as Injen's. Truthfully I though it was going to be the Injen pipe just without the name on it.

As for the FP intake, think again. $69? Not really. It's actually $138 exactly for anyone running any normal setup. $69 + $39 for the t-25, 16g, some 20g's reducer, $8 for the other coupler, and $25 for the flange. Not too many people have a MAFT. And that's without shipping, so $65 vs about $150. :thumb:

also the fp intake is $69 + $25 for the bov return tube, and then another $29 for the couplers and then shipping. You do the math.

I agree, the price is over the initial $65 of the ebay one. But its all a matter of quality. There is a reason those silicon couplers are $29. They're not some cheap knock offs, and I'd bet they would last longer then the ones you were provided with.

Simply put, if you were looking for a cheap solution, you got it. End of story.

You can buy the fp intake once, and be done with it. Knowing its good quality

69 + 25 + 29 = 123

You can buy the ebay one, once and when the couplers tear and/or the welds crack, you can buy another.

65 + 65 = 130

Which math looks better to you?

And the point of: "have it flanged for whatever bov you've got" was pointed in the direction of venting/not. Just figured I'd clear that up.

Yeah, the couplers were my initial concern before I bought it but we'll see how long they hold up. That is if I keep it. I think they're pure silicone just like cookware LOL. Just not reinforced and everything. A lot of the reason that coupler is $29 isn't just that it's a good coupler though. If it was a normal one it'd be $8 but it's a reducer so they're more $. But you left out one coupler in you numbers and the $65 includes shipping. So it's not $123, it's $150.

the way I see it is you are all right. Its a cheap intake, but with intake pipes it really does not matter. I got mine for 30 from a friend who bought it but didnt have an aftermarket filter. I'm gonna polish it (any good ideas for polishing?) eventually. If I had the skills or materials to make myself an intake pipe I would. So yea, for someone on a budget, its a better deal. Looking at it through the long run, I know i'll probably end up with an Injen intake pipe along the lines...just because I feel better with proven parts.

edit: I really like the way that FP intake pipe looks.

What makes you think the couplers will fail? It's not like they have to be able to withstand high heat and pressure like ones after the turbo. There really isn't any reason those welds should crack either, even crappy welds under the conditions an intake pipe sees shouldn't fail...

In some parts of the country, the smog mechanics know the Injen name, and know to reject the car if there's not a CARB sticker- which the Talons never got for the exact same goddamned piece on the same engine.

Another minor advantage to cheap, for some.

And I have no idea why they can't get the front and back halves of the inner core equal. They're all thicker on the front half.

As for being aluminum- got a magnet?

I'm pretty sure it's aluminum. I used a carbide bit to open up the holes and clean up the BOV dump tube welds and it cut through rather quickly. I got mine from ExtremePSI, tube was the same as the one pictured, but they use Hose Techniques couplers.

I think I bought the same intake off ebay because I wanted to re-circulate. just got it in yesterday. the couplers and hoses provided aren't as good in quality as the injen ones because I have the injen one. the one I bought from injen doesn't have the dump tube because I didn't know I should of been re-circulating. I was a dumb newbie. I'm going to have to buy a 3" intake because I'm planning to upgrade the turbo so I didn't want to dish out 200+ for another injen intake or some other brand name one. it would only be on temporarily anyways. I heard the intake on the t25 doesn't even help you that much, maybe 1-2 hp if any, that's why I bought the ebay one. the intake itself looks ok but the welds on the dump tube could of been better. I'm going to use the injen couplers and hoses to be on the safe side. i'm going to put on the intake tonight or tomorrow morning so i'll get back to you.

smooth intake = bad...if youe intake manifold were smooth the air fuel mixture wouldnt atomized very well. As far as the quality, of course it isnt the best but the difference in perfromance btwn that and a similar injun is going to be slim to none. I also doubt they used cast iron as it would be heavy as hell and wouldnt be very cost effective. In my opinion thats a great deal and wrap the thin in heat wrap and your made in the shade...until you upgrade your turbo to a b16g or bigger(t25 and t28 still good :thumb: )

I don't know about you but my fuel gets injected at the end of the intake manifold. Are you thinking about the head?

In any case we are taking about the intake pipe before the turbo, no fuel there. I don't think it makes much of a differance but i would prefer smooth for my whole intake track.

The inside of my Injen intake looks exactly like the knock off.

Well I bought the Injen intake when I first got the car (my first mod) I paid $225 (but that comes with the filter adapter & a K&N Filter, did the Ebay one?). For the price you paid I would say thats not a bad deal. Like has been said the couplers aren't as good & the Injen intakes are cast as well but the outside is much nicer, no pits etc. & the inside was slightly rough but was alot smoother then the pics of the Ebay one. But then again you can easily sand yours smoother if you wanted.
