Is it true you dont build boost off the line, unless you drive an auto? when you rev your engine your turbo cannot be herd spooling up right? let me know cause some people on another forum are trying to tell me other wise and i would like to set them stright.

i actually drive a 97 gst auto, yeah i know its embarrasing but hey, i got it with 13k miles about 6months ago, and i can not hear my turbo at all unless i am actually driving or have the car in drive and step on the gas with my foot on the break.

yea see you can do a brake stand and build boost, use 5spd people cant do that, thats like your uh "advantage" over us. i just want to hear some people confirm this for me.

you can build boost off the line
its not like a rule that you cant, its just that the crankshaft spins up so fast and throws you in high rpms that there simply isnt enough time for boost to build. in other words, the engine is sucking in more air than the turbo can push out because its not had enough time to start spooling. the engine is outpacing the turbo's ability to push positive pressure.

you could spool a turbo off the line if you had a 100lb flywheel, or something to bog down the engine like a slushbox, or a stutterbox, or if you have balls of steel you could just sit at idle bouncing off the rev limiter and build full boost if your turbo can push that much cfm.

get a "stutter box" and you can build boost off the line. i typically see 10psi before i launch at 5k rpms. dsmlink and msd dis-2 have stutter box controls. basically it lowers the rev limit from 7.2k to what ever you preset as the launch rpm. that way you build boost off the line. once the car hits 1mph, the rev limiter goes back to normal settings.

your turbo dose'nt spool untill theres a load on the engine (resistance on the crankshaft)
