Hello, I put the torque converter on my motor then put the transmission on and later realized that the torque converter goes on the transmission 1st. I tried to move the crankshaft with a breaker bar and couldn't get it to move. the next day my brother recharges the battery and the motor turns slow then cranks right up. The car goes in all the gears though we havent checked if it shifts yet. we didn't take it out of the garage yet. I realized that the way i put the transmission on can cause the front transmission pump to mess up. how do i know if it will mess up or isn't messed up yet. Should I take off the transmission and do it right or is there a possibility that it is fine?

either the splines line up or they dont, I think you should start looking at batteries. :hellyeah:

no the battery wasnt the problem. I couldnt turn the crankshaft before with a 2 foot breaker bar, then my brother got the starter to turn it. HERE IS THE ?: Would the damage have already been done? would the damage have been done when I put the transmission on? I already run the motor and the gears work. Im hoping for good word, i guess ill just run it and find out. What should I do?

theres only one way to find out and thats take it back down. i doubt u really damaged anything unless the trans was forced into the splines the wrong way. if u take it down put the torque converter on first but when u put it on make sure its on then u spin it a couple of times while pushing it to make sure it pops all the way on.

this is part of the learning right :) make a mistake learn and do it again :) good luck

p.s dont drive it take it back down. i know it seems like alot of work but would u rather buy a new torque converter or ruin the splines on the trans? if its not already damaged.

When my torque converter wasnt lined up and in all the way, there was no way I could get it to even bolt up to the block. I could get the top two bolts started but there was a big gap were the bottom went in. If you forced it together hard enough to get the tranny bolted all the way up I would say the damage has been done already. They should mate up pretty easily.

cool thats what i think too. I feel like its fine though it drives on the lift in drive and reverse though I havent reved it to change gears. I feel like I got lucky, ill keep you updated.:thumb:

the pump gear is broken, i had to pull the motor back out and to take the transmission off. This is a volvo 850 turbo btw. This forum is the best that i have used and they dont compare to another other car forums as far as information transfer goes.
