I searched and couldn't find how to replace license plate light housing. It may be too simple, but I actually really don't have time to try it out. Tomorrow I will be going to the junk yard and getting some parts but I only have like an hour to get parts for 3 cars and today I am busy all day working on my interior. If anyone can quickly tell me how to replace the lights it would be great so I don't need to play around tomorrow. I got my Eclipse without the light housing, running an led strip over the plate.

If I recall its all held on inside the bumper, to take the rear bumper off you have to rip out the entire trim in the lower trunk. Both full sides, the back filler panel, the strut tower covers... its a task. Then you will see the bolts on each side of the interior.

Best way to spot the bolts is follow the line of the bumper on the sides (where it does a 90*) then remove the tail light center section to get access to the bolts that hold the middle of the bumper.

Good luck, its a pain but simple work.

Edit, also there are brackets under the bumper that attach to the chassis... but unless you can just kind of peel the bumper back a little to work on the light you shouldn't need to remove them.

maybe you are ok in Florida, but both of the rear license plate light holders on my 2gs were completely rusted away. I made new ones from aluminum.

I was able to do the work through the holes in the rear bumper fascia without removing the bumper.

Thanks! I wouldn't have had time to check that, I wouldn't expect to need to remove all that. I hope I don't run into problems tomorrow trying to get it off.

I havent actually checked mine. I will check when I install the housing. If there are no brackets, I will make new ones as well. Thanks :thumb:
