On a 1996 Eagle Talon Tsi with a 1g swap,,,How does the computer know how much boost it's getting?

In factory configuration it doesn't. It measures the air mass entering the compressor inlet and guesses what the boost level is based on engine rotational speed. And that is only used for the worthless factory dash gauge.

Its an estimate that's calculated based on either measured airflow and temperature or manifold pressure and temperature, the same way that your factory engine did things.

The only way the computer really knows is if you are running a MAP sensor that measures boost and inputs that information into your computer.

You'd have to get a special MAP sensor that can read that small amount of boost you're running.

We got in trouble for that too, LOL. Right Vegas?? :shhh: :nono: :)

Thank you guys very much for your replies.
it just seemed to me that it had to have a map or something to read the pressure.
mine didn't have the map sensor on the intake, so i hooked one up with a vacuum line.

I know that everyone says it's a boost leak causing it to fall on it's face when it hits boost,,but I've stopped all that I could find with the soapy spray.
Like throttle body was leaking, blowing bubbles,, now no more from that.
the egr was leaking deleted it and blocked it. No more bubbles there.
    Injectors leaking,,was,, no more there.
leak down is down to about 1 psi per second,,,I read that was acceptable ,I thought for sure that it was because of no map sensor but just got back from a test and still there,,,,I'm stumped,,,,,Help!!!!

You haven't described what your problem is so it's hard to help you. We also know nothing about what car you drive what is done to it.
