How comes ricey cars always win?

Let me be more specific...not races, just at shows.
My good friend has a 94 accord coupe and it's riced out beyond belief, yet he can still pull in consistent 1st and 2nd places @ shows....???
i've pondered this question a few times and i can never figure out why. do more people just flock to brightly colored vinyl designs? at a recent show (vital signs 2003) in panama city, our cars were parked right next to each others and people would come over and check his car out...i don't know...i personally opt for the clean, finished look. i'm not hating my buddies car, too each his own...but still?

......call me a ricer if you want, whatever, but I have entered and attended many shows including Nopi Nationals. There are certain points you get for each catagory. Thats why a 91 DSM with way too much crap on it can beat what you think is a nice clean 99 DSM. It's the points you rack up. Depending on what type of show or judges, you can earn mad points for things you wouldn't thing of like displays, detailed door jams, spare tire cover, painted & pinstriped frames. As for people in general checking out his car more than yours......well he probally has a lot more after market things to check out. Besides your hood, rims, drop and whatever you have inside and under the hood, what's to look at? Stock eclipse parts???

i can't disagree with what you said. it's all in personal preference. yes he more items than me. his car isn't the most tricked out & i'm not trying to bash him in any way....i just hate flipping through my fave mag or going to a show only to see 50 clones of the same car....originality is one thing, but excessive amounts of vinyl etc is another.

its a show, people wanna see crazy things out of the ordinary. dont get me wrong, i hate seeing that garbage out on the road, but at a show, its more interesting to see wild paint jobs, decals and kits. its more of an art display than who's got the faster car.

I was just at a Mopar show where a stock 340 Cuda beat a heavily modified and detailed 514 Cuda. We're talkin the difference in $100k in mods alone. THe 514 ran 11's, where the 340 ran mid 14's. I guess there is no one right way to win car shows...

which is why in car shows you $$buy$$ your trophy, unless you can come up with something insanely creative and inexpensive. i was thinking about going 50/50 performance/car show, since it has the best of both worlds (performance potential & aftermarket availability, and like me, natural good looks ) but in the end, i decided to leave her body stock, dress up a little in the car and under the hood and work on the 4g63 instead.

but i dont really know myself , i guess just cause the "riced" out cars have more of a show look to them than race , so maybe thats why they win........

That's my point....how THE HELL does his car win? I mean he's done alot, i've been there pretty much every step of the way. he used to have a HUGE honda 'h' on the hood.....but i convinced him it looked ghey and we took it off a few days before the show....i've been there for all the mods...from interior customizing to the dp/exhaust install....i know his car HAS potential....he's got alot done to it and it's all been done by us....he just needs to repaint the damn car get rid of all the vinyl and throw a kit on it....& even though i hate body kits....well it's all for show.

he has stock sideskirts too, so i couldnt help but laugh when they came off in the pics

haha...yeah, however, it seems whenever i decide to enter a show, there almost ALWAYS seems to be a bunch of great looking dsms....arrrg, oh well, since i no longer have the 97, be on the look out around sep/oct for the gst/gsx/tsi/awd....this time around, i'm going 50/50....the car will be modded as soon as i can get my fingers on it.
