Alright, i have a previous post on here asking what exhaust to buy for my 91 gsx. About half of the responses said to just buy the 3" srs off of ebay. So i have decided thats what i am going to do (I can always change the muffler). But the catback system is the easy part to buy. Here is what i have found

Dowpipe- PUNISHMENT RACING 3" DOWNPIPE FOR ECLIPSE/TALON - Punishment Racing

Cat- https://secure.buschurracing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_36_163&products_id=204

Catback- Ebay SRS

But i have a couple questions. The buschur catalytic converter says that it is a slip fit. It looks like the srs system and the downpipe are both set up for a bolt on cat. Is this going to be a problem, or should i find another cat. If i need to find another cat, what do you guys recommend. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks :)

Oh, i forgot to ask, is going from the stock 2.25" downpipe to a 3" going to be a problem as well. Will i need to buy some sort of an adapter or something.

Come on. I need some input. Please & TY

I paid 250 for a turbo back, with non ebay tubular o2 housing. Fit great..Besides the overhang on the 7cm turbing housing. Not a big deal to me tho.

Going with a exhaust shop setup is really not a big deal either. For about the same as an ebay setup, and you don't have to put it on.

I would suggest the downpipe from Road Race Engineering. It starts out at 2 1/2" (so it will bolt directly up to your stock O2 housing), then goes to a 2 1/2 flex section (which is significant for allowing the exhaust to "flex" when the engine rocks back & forth & it takes the stress off of the rest of the exhaust components) & then expands to 3" with a 2 bolt flange (4 3/16" from hole centers). They make a short & long version. The long version obviously eliminates the cat. If u go with the short version, which is what I did, for inspection & emission purposes. From here u can either buy a premaid test pipe, i.e. Megan racing or Strictly Import Motorsports, or just have one made at a local exhaust shop. Or u can go with a 3" high flow cat. RRE makes a direct bolt up one, though its extremely expensive. If u need or want to run a high flow cat, I would suggest buying a universal "slip fit" one & have an exhaust shop weld on some extra pipe & flanges. I say extra pipe because most universal high flow cats are only 11" long & the length of the stock cat section is 16". U can find 3" universal cats anywhere, not just dsm vendors, & as cheap as $50 for a metallic spun one. The only issue is having the flanges welded on at the correct position & being the correct flange for whatever exhaust system you choose. Most 3" systems use the standard 2 hole flange with a 4 3/16 hole to hole diameter. Obviously, the easiest way to make sure its done properly is to have the whole system hanging on the car, except for the cat, & then line everything (cat, extra pipe, flanges) up & mark it or spot weld it, take it back off & have it welded together. If u buy a test pipe, u can now easily switch between the two. Now for the cat back system, that's completely up to you. Megan, Apex, & many others will bolt right up to this setup. I prefer the Thermal R&D one, even though u have to cut off the step down end & weld some pipe & a 3" flange to have it bolt up, but its worth it. Of course u could just buy some eBay 3" cat back & weld on a Thermal muffler. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah.. the main reason I suggest the RRE downpipe is for clearance issues. Besides being able to bolt directly up to the stock O2 housing & having a flex section, because its on 2 1/2" at the beginning you wont have any problems with the exhaust hitting anything, like the Turbo oil drain tube.. great product!

eBay 3 inch sound damn good I have a full 3 inch hi power hks on my tsi talon and a 3 inch eBay n1 knockoff on my spyder and it sounds really good I had to modify the spare tire part to fit the exhaust but just buy down pipe hi flow cat and catback you will be inpressed

I have the MeganRacing 2.5" o2 housing, I paid around $70. It's great, and fits on the turbo a bit better than stock. It also changed the exhaust note/pitch for whatever that's worth to you. Unfortunately eBay o2 housings a lot of times come with warpage. The mounting flange is either uneven and sometimes doesn't fit the DP angle as great as they should.

And exactly what 16G do you have? Eliminating the cat in a 3" exhaust can cause boost creep in a hurry. I would go with a high flow cat in a 3" exhaust setup or if you don't want a cat, stick with the stock o2, 2.5" DP, then 3" to lessen the chance of 16G boost creep.

Has anyone used one of thte $60 o2 housings from ebay. Just curious because $60 is dang cheap.

Spend the extra money and get a punishment housing. It will bolt up perfectly and looks amazing! They spent alot of money to get it right. It bolted to my exhaust great too. Better than stock. I had fitment issues with the bolts for my downpipes because it was larger than the o2 housing. The punishment system moved the bolts out and made life sooo much better!

Okay, so i finally have purchased all of the exhaust parts for my car. I have a ported 2g mani, megan racing o2 housing, punishment racing downpipe, thunderbolt cat, and the ebay srs (which might i say looks great for the money). Thats my setup, and my question is, do you guys think i will have boost creep. I'm not sure what it is exactly but i heard that if you put a TBE on your car that theres a pretty good chance you have it. What do you guys think.

Thanks in advance

I went cat less originally on my 16g set up and I had major boost creep issues. Put a cat in and bam! All better. You should be ok. Boost creep is when your turbo creeps past its set boost level due to lack of back pressure. Im explaining it as best I can but the way I understand it is air takes path of least resistance and when it has no reason to exit through the wastegate because there's no back pressure causing resistance it keeps exiting through the exhaust wheel and continues spooling your turbo beyond what your car can probably handle. The eventual outcome is fuel cut which feels like you just hit a brick wall and is no fun.

I had a 3" Megan racing downpipe and a full 3" greddy exhaust on my 96 GST with the muffler having a 4" tip out the back. I thought the muffler tip was to big. 3" is the way to go! Sounds great and you get good performance.

I had, up until 2 weeks ago, a fully ported E316G/2G manifold setup, Megan Racing o2 housing (2.5" outlet), 2.5"-3" adapter, 3" downpipe, 3" high flow cat. Never had a creeping problem, it held WG boost all through the RPM's like a champ. Then I gutted the cat and wham-o, boost creep. That's with the WG tied directly to an unrestricted boost source. Good thing I can tune for it :)

And, I'm just under the legal limit for noise according to my decibel meter, thanks to the app store. LOL

I have had 6 project cars that I have modded. from a 1980 z28 to mustang and grand national and 3 talons. Always get a good quality stainless steel or titanium if avilable. It's going to pay off if you need to sell it or the car. If you keep the cat the cops wont bother you. The louder the car the bigger the heat score (cop magnet). Driving is a previlage and do whats right. You can go fast without sounding like a honda with a bad muffler. My friend his the fastest r35 in Canada he went 9.90s 1/4 mile at 145 mph, with all the emissions and cats on his titanium exhaust. Most times you get for what you pay for. 3 three inch is the better and follow from front to back.

Looking forward to seeing/hearing it! I'm really curious as well since I'll be getting my exhaust on in the next month or so. I've got a Punishment racing recirculated o2, Punishment racing 3 inch downpipe, and a Thermal R&D cat back. Definitely concerned about the boost creep issue as I'll also be getting my Evo III 16g installed as well.. But I really don't want to have to install a catalytic converter..

Looks good, I'm curious how much did u pay for just your catback? I would of suggested CXracing they're exhaust is great.. And not to mention you would of gotten a full 3" turbo back for the the price of what u ###### payed for just ## catback.

Well, the car has been in the shop for three days now. The first day was spent haggling with them about price ($650 to install :( ), and today is the second day that they were supossed to be working on it. They haven't got much done yet, but I did get some bad news. They think my turbo is getting ready to take a crap. I guess he said it is sucking oil (bad seals), and then he said something about the wheel in there. Its just an ebay 16g that came on the car when I bought it, so I guess I saw this coming. But here is what I spent on my exhaust, I think it will total to about $500 for everything.

$50- ported 2g mani
$80- o2 housing
$150- punishment downpipe
$50- 3 inch high flow cat
$160- ebay srs catback.
???- a few gaskets

Ill post a video of it when it is on. They said they should be done tomorrow, but that is what they said about today, so we will see.

$650 is outrageous! That whole setup is bolt on, you could have had it on in a matter of hours for free!

I know I could have probably got some parts on myself, but I cant weld. They are having to make some hangers, and have to weld in the caalytic converter. Any bolt on 3 inch high flow cat was well over $200. My dad is paying for most of the install, I bought all the parts, so the install hurts him more than me, but it is still high.

i won a auction on ebay for my apexi cat back that deleted the cat 80.00.
I sold my cat at a junk yard for 80.00.
Bought my apexi N1 cat back from ebay for 120.00.
Didn't like how quiet the car still was so I cut the back of the can open and took out all the sound deadening material and the baffle....took it back to the exhaust shop and had it welded back up for 30.00. I love the way my talon sounds now. Could still be louder but its nice sounding. Everything was a perfect fit also
