So for a while I have been trying to catch up with the rest of the world and get high speed. I tried through my phone company for DSL, but I am too far away from the distribution center. I then tried through the cable company, but they want to charge me an arm and a leg to wire it less then a quarter mile to my house. They told me that I don't have cable but i do have Fiber Optic cable ran in front of my house. I also contacted Verizaon who is the only company i know of who is running fiber and they said that they do not service my area. I took a walk today and realized that it is definately fiber. Now I live in the middle-of-nowhere, as can probably be seen by the fact that I dont have access to any of todays technologies, but why would I have Fiber running in front of my house? Also does anyone know of a service I could call in order to find out who ran the Fiber line? And lastly does anyone know a way to have the cable ran for free (I doubt it. ) Thanks for the time.

Try Hues net or something like that. They're doing satellite internet. Basically its like satellite cable except with internet.

You're kind of stuck. Ask the computer shops nearest you if they have any ideas, or see if there's any WiFi suppliers near you. If not, start one and get rich.

i pretty much assumed that that was the case, the only thing i was really curious about was the fiber optic line running in front of my house. it really does not make sense to me that they would not have cable out here but that they would have fiber optic.
thanks

It kind of depends on where you are, specifically. There was a huge push to install fiber optic networks in the nineties, then it was over-installed to an absurd level. You might try a Google for "dark optics".
Find whose utility pole it's on, and call them to find out if they can tell you whose cable it is.

maybe you need Clearwire? its wireless broadband. you can put in your adress and see if they have coverage in your area.
