High Idle up to 1400 RPM

Alright half the time my idle is at the appropriate 750 RPM, but the other half can be between 1000-1400 RPM and holds steady no surging.

What I have found when the idle is high I can pop the hood and play with the accelerater cable(not sure what its really called but you can accelerate the engine with it) behind the throttle body then the idle goes down. Its as if the "butterfly" is stuck so I cleaned the intake manifold but that didnt fix it.

Could it be the accelerator cable with the spring attached to the throttle body?(I've tried spraying it down with wd40)

Do I need to replace the whole cable maybe? If so is the spring a B-TCH?

i had that same problem and i replaced it. its not really that bad and it fix the idle problem. try to maybe get a bigger spring and see if that helps. then if it don't try to replace. other than that i don't know. take the cable off and see if the throtle body is hard to turn or has any resistance or maybe doesn't want to close all the way. that could be a problem. try that stuff and get back to us. later and good luck

tdoshi: was your idle surging at all? Did the idle go high right when you turned on the car? and then drop down to around 1k-1.4k? thanks

No surging when I start the car it will be at 900 RPM after about 5 minutes of driving it works its way up to 1400 RPM and holds steady no surging. I have to play with the throttle control under the hood to get it back down so it seems like it gets stuck(the cable).

Is it easy to replace the spring and cable?
Are they expensive?
