Here is the start to the crazy build. You can see why later on the front end of the car gets cut off.

And here is the cutting off of the front end, and the start to fabricating the main structure.

Here is the start of the 1 piece removable front clip, just to make the car easy to work on. You can take the hood off with 4 pins, or the hole front clip comes off with 4 pins and 2 zuss fasteners.

I dont mean to be an asshole but your welds look like sh1t here

like WTF happened here... way too much filler?

Yes the plan was to make it look as much like it did, but easy to work on. The lexan rear window and the stickers and roll cage are the dead give aways, besides the pissed off noises this car makes driving around.

If you are talking about the welds on the inside of the water to air, well I did not try to make them look pretty, I was just burning them in. And if you are talking about the outside, its just burn threw from when I welded the inside, and it looks better now that I welded over the outside as well.

I am by no means the greatest welded to walk the earth, I had to learn how to TIG Weld from reading/internet/and this guy I knew that welded for 30 years. I am still working on the pretty part of welding, and my stuff always seems to not turn out as pretty as if I were to welding something for someone else.

And its held 44psi a few times on the dyno, and 40psi for street driving for 2 years.

And you are now kind of up to speed on the fabrication that went into this crazy project. We figure there is over 3000 man hours in the build up to this point. We have some stuff here and there we want to change, but the car might be out for paint over this winter.

~John

Sure some welds could look a little more pretty, but thats just nuts what your doing. I love it! I don't think I have the skills at this time to do something like that, at least not that quickly!! Maybe if I had a looong time to do it.

Plus im not sure I would have the guts to chop into a VR4 like that! She's looking real good overall, I can't wait to see how it turns out. BTW, just curious will a car like this ever be able to be legally registered for street use again?

<--- always wanted a VR4. Keep up the good work! and keep the updates a flowing.

I will dig threw my pics and see if there is anything I missed. Or if you want to see something, or more pics of something let me know. Thanks for looking.

AWesome build my man!!!! YOu've done exactly what i some day hope to do to my GST, I wanna cage it, full tube front end and just about everything else you've done. I think your welds are fine and i weld almost daily making my living. ALuminum is a lot harder than most think it to be, especially when you get a guy who can run a decent MIG bead then starts dogging on your aluminum TIG work. AS for fiuller amount.. unlike all other metals, aluminum is the opposite where it's weld is the weak area and that's why you never grind them so the more filler the stonger it's going to be. Not to mention those were probably a bi*** to get to in the first place (now no one take offense i'm just saying my thoughts, not putting anyone down)

i'd love to see some more in depth pics, and especially some video of this beast in action!!!

great work man and keep it up, don't let anyone ediscourage you. I've been TIG'ing a long time and there's a lot of factors right down to enviromental factors like wind, humidity and temperature. then you have the aluminum it's self which should be cleaned before each round of welding and not left to sit after brushing or it will need it again. not to mention the seemingly increasing odds of getting a bad bottle of argon which won't let you lay a bead worth a crap

great work man, never stop!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very very nice! Defiantly takes skill and balls to cut into a VR4 (or any car for that matter) and rebuild it!
