been reading a lot but I'm still lost with this. first trouble I got into- downloaded ecuflash 1.44 and the 96531706 rom to my desktop but every time I try to open it, it will not load the ROM to the ecuflash. Am I missing something? can someone please go through step by step for me? thanks for the help.

You need to download the XML for the appropriate Rom you want to use if it didn't come with it and copy/paste it into the ECUflash XML directory. C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\mitsubishi\evo. Then open ECUflash and it should work fine. There is a lot of info in these threads about the subject...

Even though the information in the second two threads are more DSM ECU specific it is still valid when it comes to tuning and what not...

cool thanks. I save the rom to C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\mitsubishi\evo but do I have to be connected to the ecu for it to pop out? also when I try to open it from ecuflash it only gives me .bin or .hex would this be my problem?

No you don't need to be connected to the ECU for ECUflach to populate, and you don't need to save the ROM to that directory you need to save the XML there. The file you need to save to the above directory should be TephraMOD-96531706-v7.xml. That it the file that tells ECUflash what The Rom came out of and where to find the tables. Once ECUflash knows this information it will populate all the tunable tables. If your ROM didnt come with the XML you can download it Here. And no it doesn't matter, you can save it as a .bin or .hex
