hello every one,
my name is steve. i have been in the car scene for a while but with a diff group. i used to have a 300hp 91 ford escort gt, and ran a forum just for escorts. then times got ruff and i had to sell. probably the hardest thing i had to ever do. i was out for a few years chasing other hobbies. didn't plan to get back in but came across this car i could not pass up and now i am ready to start learning the DSM way and build my new ride up. ok enough history about me i could go on for hours.

I just bought a 96 eclipse spyder GST for 1500. it is in perfect conditon with 73k miles on it. it was a garage kept car and i can tell from its shape. i have only had it for a few days and it so far it is impressive. i have started reading and looking up things to do to it. learning alot so far. i am open to suggestions on what to do, as in little things that are easy for starters to do. i do know how to use a forum and the search feature. but sometimes it is easier for a hand so if you want to point me in a direction to a little tip or trick i wont mind, LOL. thank you for the help in advance. and i look forward to becoming a DSM guy.

What are your goals for the car? Right now you are on the T-25 Turbo, which is already performing at it's max.
You also have a 96, 95-97's are prone to crankwalk.

First standard maintenance! Fluids, Belts, Waterpump, plugs, ect!

Second thing to do is replace your crappy 2g bov!
Get a 1g Bov "i have one for sale :)" with a adapter flange to replace your already leaking 2g bov.

Once that's all done...

So the question is... Are you looking for performance now with risk,
or do you want to eliminate a good chunk of that risk then go for performance?

If neither, just stay up on maintenance and enjoy the ride!
Some nice Continental tires will give you the traction your missing in most of 1st gear and 2nd.
These cars need oil with a high Zinc content as well! Syncromesh for the transmission,

My goal is to do a few upgrades, I want to go with a bigger turbo, front mount ic, exhaust, lower it and get rid of the wheel gap, fuel upgrades maybe a few other things.
I def want to do it right and want to eliminate risk cause I know from the last project car risk is no good.

As far as the crankwalk, Is it just the head I need to replace or is it the lower end also. What is crankwalk.

Crank walk is...

95-97 Cars are prone to it. See more http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/answers-terms.htm#whatiscrankwalk[DOUBLEPOST=1415888918][/DOUBLEPOST]And I have that wheel gap too : (It's awful! I can fit my fist between the tire and fender. New shocks/springs are needed, but after winter![DOUBLEPOST=1415889072][/DOUBLEPOST]It sounds like you want a street machine :) 14b or 16g is the way to go :)

Good luck man
We all hope to make some good power
Just make sure you don't take any short cuts and maintain everything and you should he alright

ya i am deff looking to take my time and do it all the rght way the first time. and starting slow as to not get to many things gong at the same time.

That's awesome I'm pretty sure my brother was a part of your escort forum. My first car was an escort. You just never see those things anymore.

welcome! you will find you can do TONS and break stuff a lot easier here too! LOL, definitely take the time to read up on every thing and most common starter mods I think would be the 12v fuel pump relay mod and check into if your timing belt was changed yet
