Headgasket

Im looking for a car right now and i am mainly looking at eclipses/talons. Someone told me not to go near them because of the headgasket that they have its made of fiber and if u just slightly modify your engine that it will blow and warp the head and all. I just was wondering if this is true or not because i still really want an eclipse. If this is a problem would gettin a metal gasket fix it and if so how much do these normally run? thanks

yes i do work on cars. I am not real familar with mitsubishis but i can learn pretty quickly. I am just trying to convince my dad that there is no problem with the headgaskets so that i can get one.

head gaskets do blow, Its not going to be a huge problem unless you are running a lot of power. Once you get close to the 300hp range they seem to become a bigger problem. You can get some arp head studs and the metal mitsu head gasket and there seems to be less of a problem. I don't know how much this helps but if you are running a lot power don't be surprised if you blow a head gasket. If you aren't running a lot not too big of a deal, you might blow one still but it isn't too common. I would be more worried about crankwalk if you are planning on getting an unmodded 2nd gen
