i was looking at some 4-2-1 headers for my 95 gs and i was wondering what brands are good and are they worth the money?? what type of hp and torque they give?? any info would be appreciated. :dsm:

1. Inline 4 cylinders require only one header.
2. 4-1 has longer legs and is designed to breathe better at the top end.
3. 4-2-1 has better scavengine abilities (?) and flattens the torque curve
4. Headers, in general, don't do much for these cars. They are an important part of a comprehensive NA build plan, but you'll get more of a value by looking for a used header and then having it ceramic coated. Buying a brand new DC/Greddy/JDM/ThunderRice header is a waste imo. You can get a used Pacesetter and have it ceramic coated for under $300.

Just my 2 bits.

 haha come on thats just like people flipping out for calling nitrous NOS. i call them headers

thanks gsgoinfast.........it is just an "s".....what do you think of a header for our cars???
by the way, do you have a wet or dry nitrous kit?? i heard the dry kits are better for non turbo cars?? later :dsm:

i am not to fond of headers. the only experience i had with them were with my friends mustang(V6 so they are headerS :p ) and it wasnt pleasant, pain in the ass to install and i saw minimal gains with it. and from what i hear, you get 2 hp max from headers and no quarter mile difference. so imo im gonna spend my money elsewhere untill i am more modded and need them. i have a wet shot. you can only use the dry shots on 95's i think, because they were the only model with a fuel pressure regulator. i would rather have a wet shot, you dont go as lean, and they have more potential

chris you of the both of us should have a header and not i. :p

Post whore hehe

But yes i have a 4-1 header, i beleive a 4-2-1 header would be better for low end torque and i should have gotten that instaed but oh well it all worked out for me ;)

Come on mike try and keep up

heres how i see it. yes you can get a header for $275... and gain what, 2hp? or lets see what you can do with that $275 to be more productive... hi flow cat $100 5hp, bored tb, $100 5hp... and for those who dont have a UDP, another $100 and you can get a udp... 8 hp. thats a peak of 18hp for $300... or 2hp for $275? or in my case, save up $100 more and get the greddy emanage engine management... controll fuel maps like a S-AFC but also be able to controll timing for my nitrous... i just dont see headers as useful. i am coming sorta close to needed one i guess, while im spraying at least, but right now my money can go to more productive things. :thumb:

I have a high flow cat and custom mandrel bent exhaust. The header gave a noticeable gain. I'd say just as much as an intake. The car still isn't fast. It's just a little more fun to drive now.

I have ebay headers. I noticed a good gain. Deffinatly a more throaty sound. A good investment, just plan on selling them if you go turbo

why do you have to take off the headerS if you go turbo ?? you are still using a 420a so the setup isnt changing correct ? also if the headers have to come off do you need to take off the N/T pulley set ?? im just wondering cuz im about to get all 3- turbo, pulleys, and the headers... ive already got the hi flow cat and custom 3'' exhaust

I better get this before some one rips you a new one.... Your turbo manifold will bolt to the exhaust side of your head. Thats where your headers are at. You have to have a turbo manifold. Second, you can't use 4g63 pulleys on our 420a motor (at least I'm 99% sure you can't) 3" exhaust on your NT will make you loose power, but with a turbo its great. You need to have backpressure in your exhaust when your NA, and a 3" with high flow cat will deffinatly have little backpressure. The pulleys, just get a unorthadox or AF/X underdrive crank pulley. I don't think you'll find the others. They're pointless anyway. your powersteering doesn't need it, your alternator don't, and just take the AC out. Saves a lot of weight. If you got more questions PM me. These guys on here can be brutal to a noobie.

nice u just saved him a bigg bigg rip by some ppl who would have done it to him LOL

agreed...

just a suggestion... do a little research before you throw a ton of money in your car... if i had money at the time i would have done the same thing, but now i look back at the things i was "going to get" and laugh at how dumb i was.... so just a suggestion :thumb:

I installed a set of pacesetter headers on my old 1g before I decided to go turbo. I didn't feel any gain at all. The problem is that improving flow on a four cylinder NT just isn't going to impact performance at all. Sure, exhaust flow is everything to a turbo, but on a 4 banger its just not gonna matter. There are so so so many better ways to spend your money. Don't make the same mistake I did, out of ignorance. Learn from other people's mistakes. That's why the forums are here.
