Hey whats up, I plan on putting in a Hahn Stage II turbno kit in my 99 GS and I was recently reading the directions of installions on the web and read that it is recommended to push no more than 8psi with a stage II is that true? and are you able to push more psi? My other question is that in the directions Hahn does not recommend using a boost controller for their system would it be better to have one or to listen to hahn?
Thanks alot
jim

You can run 10lbs of boost. However, remember that its not will your engine last.. its how long it will last. Youll find that with any kit. The wastegate on the 16g turbo is set to 5lbs of boost. Even if you get the stage 2 kit, you will still be at 5 lbs of boost. I have a dual stage boost controller on mine which allows me to go between 5 and 10lbs of boost. Boost controllers are ok, they just don't want you to blow yourself up.

is there anyway to adjust the amount of boost without a boost controller? If stage II is set at 5psi, how do you increase to like 8psi or so? I assume the only way is with a boost controller?

Actually you can adjust the boost my adjusting the actuator arm length. You have to be careful when doing this or you'll screw up the accuracy. I would call Hahn and ask more about it. If yours came with the 5-7psi actuator then you can get 7 maybe 8psi out of it. Like I said its tricky so call hahn. Boost controllers are cheap and take less time to mess with. I would look at a good Hallman if I were you. They are cheap and work good.

Just talked with Bill and yes you can adjust the actuator arm where it is threaded and that should allow you to manipulate the boost. Make sure you dont go more than 8psi he said. You really need bigger injectors and a built up bottome end. Just had to double check so I did not give you the wrong info.

i know you can move the arm, however its not smoething i recommend people to play with. getting aboost controller is a safer method which is why i didn't say anything about the arm.

how would you like to find out you aided in someone ####in up their kit?

That's why external wastegates are go awesome, it's so easy to adjust boost in them. Simply get the spring you want, for a general setting and then use the screw on the top of the wastegate for fine tuning your desired PSI. You simply can't go wrong, why, because you're running off the wastegate.

Unless you're me and have the same freak accident where the vac. line heats up and breaks, causing your 20psi boost guage to spike before you know what happends.

next time read all my post.. i said after i wrote that, "i dont suggest it"
just because u were wrong u get all pissed off.

Talking with Hahn about it he did not seem too concerned. Your only going to be able to adjust it so far. You could start by adjusting it down to get an idea of how many psi a rotation would do. The bi*** would be the fact that you would have to wait for it to cool down or deal with the heat each time.

Thanks alot for the imput guys i plan on doing the Howell Bottom end rebuild kit before i turbo after that can i run more than 10psi?
thanks

Mine also came at 5 psi i had to adjust the acuator rod until it was bottomed out and i also had to add 3 washers between were the acuator bolts to the turbo (by the air filter) , now i am at 8-9 psi. Be carfull doing this, do it one washer at a time and test drive before adding another washer. This was told to me from Len at Hahn. And he also said that all turbo kits come set low at about 5 psi. Hope this helps:thumb:

Mine came with a 10 lbs. actuator but got about 3 psi loss from the HUGE IC they come with.. It was set for 5 lbs though.. by opening up the wastegate all the way.. the most you can get out of it without a boost controller is about 7 mabye spike to 8 tops.. I agree with all the comments up here except for the fact that you all actually got a 10 lbs actuator but only saw 5 psi simply cause its not set for wide open boost when it comes out from the factory. IC is way overkill but looks sweet as hell. So no matter what your boost guage reads.. remember that you will get 2-3 lbs of drop off form your actual turbo. so 10 psi at the wastegate will only give your engine a full 7 psi.. All i will say.. BUILD YOUR BOTTOM END!!!!!! If you dont... make sure you have proper guages to check what is goin on in your motor.. Oil temp and pressure should be atleast 2 of the important ones... Air/Fuel is also a great indicator to have... Happy boosting my freind :)

Damn Hahn's Ic loses 3 psi to pressure drop? I don't think that's right, and I know you don't loose 5psi through there. Your most important guages will be 1. A/F or O2 sensor guage (I reccomend the apexi TT as it has both of these in addition to doing your tt) 2. EGT guage. Oil guages are nice but don't mean shit next to these two. If that motor goes above 1600 degrees for any length of time and your motor may blow. Also you need to know if your lean, or else boom. I'm not trying to bust balls here but oil guages are some of the last ones to think about.
