Venice,
Car is down for a few days anyways so its not a big deal, but i need some help pretty soon as to what is wrong with my baby. Searched and cant find anything, so i figured some1 knew of a post i didnt find or they could just give me their $.02

took the air filter off today to clean it and re-oil it, so i figured while i was in there, i would try hacking the MAF like a fellow local DSMer told me to try. so i pulled the intake off and checked the turbo while i could get at it and turbo feels fine, almost 60k miles and still like new :D. anyways, i did what he told me to thinking all would be well and i removed all the honeycomb stuff from the MAF, but i took it out in a manner that i cannot put it back in. i then reinstalled my intake, MAF, and clean filter. fired up the car and got a "service engine soon" light, and got a rough idle, similar to that of when i had the recirc on my BOV taken off. when i put the clutch in, and motor tries to drop back to an idle, it either drops WAYY too low (about 300rpm), or it just completely dies. even if the car is off and just sitting and i fire it up, it wont even idle for more than about 5-10 seconds before the idle drops so low that it stalls. i tried unhooking the battery to reset the ECU, but the damn ECU wont reset. i unhooked the battery and am going to leave it off all night and see if it will be ok in the morning. im thinkin that reseting it will throw out the old air flow #s, and it will relearn the intake volume, and adjust accordingly.

thanks for reading this whole thing, if you made it this far... any help would be GREATLY appreciated. if you want, you can catch me on AIM (HOOKSH DSM) or email me ([email protected]) or just post here and ill keep checking on this every hour or so. thanks again in advance for the help ill get

I know removing your honeycomb does cause crazy idle, but not like that.. uhm.. are you sure you plugged your sensor back in? =\ .. a little summary on what the honey comb does, it basically makes the air flow in straight.. so liek the volume going in is the same throughout the entrance to teh MAF. now removing it, causes air to go in at any rate and volume it wants to, if you have a compleltey open air filter, you won't notice too much of a differnece, because air is still coming in from all sides, which still causes normal air flow, now if you have a semi-covered air can, then that can cause it because only one side of the MAF is getting all the air opposed to the whole thing.. make sense?

I second the nut kicking.

And take one for yourself as well for not doing the research to make sure it wasn't going to mess up your car.

And look on the trader for a new MAF.

definitely kick him in the balls..... hard....... twice :thumb:

but yea the honeycomb thing is a big 1st gen free mod. 2nd gens are not know for doing that but i guess they do :)

well i knew that hacking MAF on 1st gen was a good thing, so when he said that it was good on 2G as well, i was up for trying it, but i guess that was a bad idea, i guess ill post things like that BEFORE i do them next time to make sure that they are ok to do. i am going to kick him square in the balls like 25 times when i see him next. and now i have like no money for a new MAF... how much do they run? wheres the best place to find one? on here? dsm.org? dsmtrader.com? thanks for the help, and thanks for the nut kick idea, its a great one, later
