My hi-flow barely passed smog when it was new 2 years ago (passed by one number).. so i'm going to put my stock downpipe and a stock cat on for smogging purposes. Problem is one reason I went with a hi-flow to begin with was because my cat was clogged and had to be replaced anyway, so I don't have my own and will have to borrow/buy a stocker..

So, a friend tells me he knows a guy that has one, but he owns a 2g gsx, i own a gst. I'm wondering if they use the same cat connections?

According to partsamerica.com, they utilize the same part number. So yes, they both will work interchangeably.

What high flow cat failed you? Did they hit you on anything in the visual inspection? I also thought you were running an EvoIII turbo.

Nah, I still have the t25... it's the Road Race high flow. It didn't fail, but my sniffer numbers only passed by the exact digit. (this number doesn't mean anything, but say if it was 83 to pass, i got 83) The thing is, that was 2 years ago, so I figure the cat's got some miles on it now. My car smells like it's running kind of rich. I just want to put the stock cat on to be safe.

I got yah. I got the Magnaflow "OBDII" carb legal cat. I haven't really ran my car in 2 years. Too many d@mn engine problems. I am in the process of pulling the one I got out now and putting a new one it.

I am so tempted to run the stock cat and downpipe but, I am not even sure if that will do me any better.

If I were you, just buy a magnaflow 2" cat and weld some flanges on there and you know the cat is good. If you go to Summit racing or jegs, they are somewhere around $70. Check it out and see what you think.

One thing for you to think about. I mentioned this in the carb legal thread, I was told by a formed smog ref(in irvine) that as long is the cat is obd2 carb legal, the rest of your exhaust should be fine(as long as you have resonators and a muffler and not too loud). He also said the diameter doesn't matter also, as long as it meets these parameters.

How is your t-25 holding up?

I have that very same RRE high flow cat. I have passed numerous times here in Cali. One time with stock injectors, walboro 190, NO TUNING, ported big16g, 3" turboback, bov, filter, fmic, etc etc.

Then again with same as above except pte 50 trim, bigger fmic, denso 660s, dsmlink, etc.

And it wasn't "barely" passing either. It's something else that is causing you to barely pass or fail.

I'm sure you're right. My friend convinced me to just try it as is and see what happens. That was 2 years ago. I've had a rebuilt head since then so i'm sure things will be much different anyway.

How is your t-25 holding up?

Surprisingly, it's still pulling strong for a 12 yr. old car (as strong as a t25 can anyway)
