GSC S2 or S3 vs Kelford vs FP4r

Noone is going to agree, but I will say that the difference between a good cam choice and a poor cam choice is much less than you'd think. Probably less than a few percent. This isn't coming from a guess, this is actual dyno work on a big power turbo limited setup. We make about 1600hp out of a 76mm turbo, cam wise, best to worse was only 35hp.....

Run somthing middle ground and call it a day. Spend the rest of your time getting a good turbo setup/tune/chassis, and you'll go much farther.

My 16g car went from 129mph to 133mph, from only a cam change. The cam is one very important part of the puzzle.

You're absolutely correct...........No one is going to agree...

I picked up 6mph as well from a drop in cam install, no degreeing. Peak HP gain based on the dyno was about 30awhp but the tq band was much more broad and carried out much further. Sometimes real world results tell more than the dyno.
 
Tyler, do you have any experience with the GSC S2 or Kelford TX274 cams on a 2.3L? As well, the head currently only has Crower single springs in it; I am going to likely change out to Supertech high pressure duals since the head will be apart, and will be needing a decently high lift cam that will work well with a large volume 5200cc plenum and 6.25" tapered runners, 70mm S90 TB, currently stock-size valves w/stock port.

It is only going to be a 600-700AWHP setup to 8600rpm and less than 40psi.

If I saw 6mph from going to a more appropriate cam for my setup, I'd be thrilled. But it's not going to happen, because I am at the absolute end of the airflow my little turbo has. I might pick up like 1mph, for a set of $500 cams? That's not a very good bang/buck ratio. I'd be better off spending my money anywhere else.

Neither of those cams will be big enough (IMO) for that cc at 8600rpm. Your going to want something in the mid 230* @ .050.. which depending on what ramp, should be high 230s to low 240s @ 1mm.

The engine build was before the cam change.. Made a couple passes, changed cams. Went back the following week, and the first pass off the trailer went 4MPH faster. Thinking there isn't more power to be made by a cam change because your charger is out of air is 100% the wrong way think about it. Because the compressor cant flow anymore, the rest of the combination becomes vastly more important.

So, a set of Supertech dual springs (high pressure version) and some TX280's? It is still a street car and will be an 8.3:1-9:1 comp motor on european 97-octane, so no super duper boost levels. I think I could probably get away with single springs, but I am going to simply do the upgrade to a quality set of dual springs and shallow viton seals on it.

Granted, the TX280's are still at the low end of what you are recommending, but I am trying to keep some sort of midrange on a BWS366 setup with the car; otherwise a set of TX288's with the spring/retainer set below.

If it were me, I'd run the 288s and put as much compression to it as I was comfortable with to keep more mid range. I'd run a set of Kiggly springs with them also. Being that its a 2.3 the additional stroke is really going to soak up the cam.
