Getting lots of timing advance for some reason?

Alright well somehow I am pulling a ton of timing while I am at partial and WOT for some reason. My logger (evoscan) says that I am pulling timing from 25-38! But when I am at idle it reads -1-7? It is really weird and like at idle I am seeing 1 count of knock but when I start driving it is always under 2 counts of knock. Here is the weird thing, I was doing a 3rd gear pull and when I hit full boost (20lbs), my stock boost guage is setup to monitor knock and it shoots up all the way full meaning I am getting a crapload of knock. Now my fuel trim is right at 10.5-11.2 at WOT so I mean it is perfectly fine there and normal driving I am at 14.5-14.9. Can someone please help me out? Sorry about all the info just crammed into one paragraph, I just want to get this finally figured out. :hellyeah:

What I am using to tune is chipped ecu from dsmchips for my 880's
and my safc for fine tuning.

Another thing that I find weird is that my aem WB says that at idle I am at 14.9-15.2 at idle but my logger reads I am at 14.7 at idle with the safc zero'd out but when I add fuel to correct my wb I have to get into the over +10% fuel? Is that fine since I am running 274 cams?

No I have not. If you don't mind me asking, what is that gonna do? Just reset the ecu?

Yeah. Its a start. Some people go too deep into "fixing" a problem that could be relatively easy. Its a good place to start with the trouble shooting.

SAFC+Chip combo is known for causing erratic control over timing. I used to have that problem with that combo + maf translator.

Have you checked your base timing with a timing light? I'm not a 2g expert...but is your CAS adjustable? If your base timing is off, I would expect weird timing like yours.

My timing is dead on as a friend came over that owns a dsm shop and has done it a million times and he verified that it was correct. So do you guys think my logger is a POS then and is reading incorrectly? I mean my afr is almost dead on at WOT and cruising. The only thing that I noticed was my knock sum guage (stock boost guage) shot up intensly while doing a WOT pull in 3rd gear but I stopped as soon as I saw that. Then I did a 5th gear pull and the same thing happened but in 2nd gear I have zero knock.

Ive had the same problem using chips. When I was doing pulls, the "knock gauge" was constantly pegging itself. The only way I fixed it was switching to dsmlink. I was able to pull an additional 100whp and shaved a full second off my 1/4 mile netting me a 10.90's @ 132.

Ask Jeff to take a look at your chip (he saves all the files for his customers) and see if there is something wrong with it. Tell him what you're problem is, and maybe he can suggest something. Back in the day, he would send me a new chip immediately then I would send him the old chip back.

Exactly *how* with EVOSCAN are you seeing 25-38* of timing being pulled? I'm not aware of any logged value that shows pulled timing. Or, are you seeing 25-38 knocksum, which would mean 8-13* of timing being pulled?
So, you are sure, as checked by grounding the timing terminal and with a timing light, the base timing is at 5* BTDC? And, you are running 93 octane, right? My maps are still very conservative, so I don't know why you would be seeing such high knock values.
If you retard the base timing, to say 2* BTDC, is the knock much better?

Well I am viewing on evoscan the "timing advance". I look at it at idle and I am anywhere from -1-7* according to it and at partial/wot I am in the 25-38*. Also I am sure I am at 5* BTDC because I did it and then my friend that has been working on dsm's for over 5 years checked over it and it is fine. As for retarding timing, I have not tried that.

Timing advance is not the same as "pulling timing". In fact, its just the opposite. Higher numbers are generally good, to a point the higher the numbers without making knock, the more power you will make. "Pulling timing" makes the numbers lower, LESS timing advance, and makes less power.
Do you know what compression ratio your motor is? Has the head been shaved?
The first thing to try is running 2* base timing and see what happens to the knock. It could just be that your engine is knock-happy, and needs less advance in the maps.

Ahh I see so I am doing fine getting 25-38* of timing advance at cruise and wot and only having -1-7* timing advance at idle correct? But I will try to get my hands on a timing gun again and I will retard timing to see what happens. As for compression ratio I am running a 7.8:1 but I had made a thread on dsmchips.com saying that I accidently put that I have a 2g 7 bolt (8.5:1) when I ordered the chip and you had told me to try and bump up my base timing to 7-8*.
