Hello, I own a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with a 420a Engine.

Since my car does not run well, I decided to replace the fuel injectors with new ones. I bought 4 new ones from PartsGeek and installed them yesterday. Once I was finished, I took the car for a spin and noticed a sputtering sound when I pressed on the gas and accelerated. Frustrated, I bought some additive that would supposedly help, it did not.

It took me a while since they are pretty hard to get to, so the thought of doing it again was gruesome. However, the next day I decided to take my time and clean the new injectors with gasoline and was very careful to not get them dirty when putting them in. Again, I took it for a spin and the same sputtering noise came on just a bit less this time. I also noticed poor fuel efficiency and a lack of acceleration.

Can anyone guide me in a direction please?

*Suggestions on how to install them properly? Do I take out the fuel rail or do I leave it in and do it from there?*

MAIN ISSUE: Sputtering after putting new injectors. Also what cc are they? Should I get other ones?

Those look like rebuild OEM injectors. They're the same colors and design anyway. That means they're 235cc injectors. Your issue is not needing larger injectors. Not unless you're running a turbo and hitting max duty cycle or something.

So you're saying this issue was introduced after you installed the new injectors? It was not doing this with the old injectors? If that's the case I would make sure you didn't damage any o-rings while installing them and also make sure they are properly snapped into the fuel rail. Any fuel leaks or vacuum leaks would cause it to run poor.

Also I'm not sure what exactly you're asking in terms of your installation question. You can't possibly replace the injectors with the fuel rail still in place.

I would install oem injectors back, but replace fuel filter, check fuel pump and replace spark plugs and air filter if it still stutters then you can do more diagnostic to it but I would never start with injectors, they hardly ever fail
