What kind of fuel filter is the best, and where is the good place to look for them?
thanks.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I had a fuel filter question too. I tried several times, unsuccessfully, to change my fuel filter. And when I took it to my mechanic it took him 2 hours to replace it. He's actually an honest mechanic and he's a Master Tech so I know hes not imcompetent. My question is has anyone else had similiar problems changing there's, and do you have any tips for getting the damn thing off? I'd rather not pay for 2 hours of labor again for a fuel filter. :(

The only advice I have is to do it frequently. I just tried to have mine changed and it took the mech. a long time to get it off because it had not been changed before. To make matters worse, the fuel filter they had was the wrong size. (Right number on the computer - wrong size threads?) Now that it's broke loose, I want to try to change maybe once a year to keep from getting stuck like that again.

how often is a good idea to change the fuel filter(besides because it gets stuck). And where is it on a 95 talon?

I've read in some places that say change the fuel filter once a year. I don't always do this, but it's probably not a bad idea. I also know from my other vehicles that the more I do it, the faster I get at it.

On a '95, the filter is located on the firewall. If you look on the firewall down between the battery and the intake you should see it. It's mounted to the firewall with a large bracket.

mine took me 20 minutes to change and would have taken shorter if the thing wasnt rusted in so bad. two hours for a master tech? wow...LOL im only 17 and can do minor stuff myself in a reasonable amt of tim3

Wow I should go into business if I could charge that much money to change a fuel filter. Mine took about half an hour I change mine about once a year, and thats whats recommended.

It took me about an hour the first time, since a) I didn't know what I was doing, and b) it was hard to get off since it was probably the original filter and had been on there for around 5 years.

I took it off again a couple weeks ago when I upgraded my fuel line, and it was a lot faster to get off this time (about 15 minutes from popping the hood to having the filter in my hand), even with having to take out the battery and battery tray.

Tip: PB Blaster always helps!

Yeah, I had to remove the battery, tray, and support as well. I was able to leave the UICP in, though. I also performed some weight reduction during the reinstall too (read: I lost a couple of the bolts holding the battery tray on).

Well, I am going to try changing it in about an hour. See what happens. I think it's an original one, from like 7 years ago, so looks like it's gonna be a bi***.
