So I got a used fp mani, it has some spots where the coating is gone and some very light surface rust is starting to build. After some searching I have a question.

Is any VHT iron coating ok to use or should I lean more towards a specialist brand? Not trying anything crazy or any flashy colors, just want a decent coating that will withstand the heat and last. Also hoping to diy this small project so I don’t want to send it off for someone else to do it, I’m fairly experienced in painting and can use a can, I also have an hvlp gun if needed.

Thanks In advance team.

I would be just as concerned with prep. If you have it off the car, take it to be blasted in the area of the rust. More than likely it has crept unseen under the existing chipped edge, you'll want to blast/peel the coating back to where only clean metal shows. Far better adhesion that way, and at those temps adhesion is big. Then prime and paint with the high temp paint of your choice. Or if its small and you have a decent compressor, you can buy hand held blaster guns at Harbor Freight and try that.

I was wondering if I needed to bust out my hvlp gun and compressor. I think a decent rattle can product would do though.

VHT is awesome stuff. I painted my manifold like 6 or 7 years ago, still holding up. Just clean it up and rattlecan it. Be sure to follow the baking instructions.

Thanks for the links dude, I was wondering about the baking instructions, seems very similar to powder coating. And yeah I’ll be sand blasting the entire manifold, cleaning, masking, and coating
