I'm thinking about a turbo too , my engine has 159 miles on it. What all needs to be done to prep up a turbo. I would like to one day able to put out 350 or so and my engine can handle it.

Trust me dude, turbo is much safer than nitrous. The reason that guys engine went on him is because of his mileage, and he was probably boosting too much on stock internals. Just spend like 1 grand on rods and pistons, then get the turbo kit. You can finish with the rest of your internals later on down the road.

what turbo kit should i go with and what stage after the piston and rods are replace ...do u how know what the price range would run for a whole entire system with everything

Hahn makes good stuff, but keep in mind one thing about all thier stuff

1. Thier hp ratings on thier turbos are at the crank not the wheels
2. Thier times estimate is not exactly correct. That might be what Bill ran but not everone is going to see those times.

They make a great product and costomer support is top notch. The prices for thier Staged turbo systems are:

1. $2295.00
2. $3049.00
3. $5295.00
4. $6295.00
5. $6295.00

I'm pretty sure those prices do not include the front mount intercooler, but they are offering to the next 10 buyers of thier kits a free front mount so now would be the time to buy.

Ok, I was thinking of saving up and probably next spring/early winter have enough for hahn's stage 3 kit so I can get the internals. I would rather do it right the first time then have to do it twice.

I put my star on at 74xxx miles and am now as 115 with no problems what so ever, the compression is still just as good as the day the turbo went on. I just rebuilt but I wanted the 2.2L I didn't do it because mine blew. That was running 8psi to the manifold everyday for the last year or more. When the engine came out it looked great. Let's face it the stock internals are a crap shoot as to when they will go, it all depends on maintance, boost levels, etc, etc, etc. Don't be scared to turbo, just be prepared to rebuild if you need to, or keep to the kit's specs.

OK, to appease the masses, I was pushing 7 PSI on stock internals. Car has been driven hard since the day I got it. After the turbo went on I changed the oil religiously every 2K miles. Like was stated early, it's a crap shoot as to when the stock internals will let go. It's not a matter of IF they will go but WHEN. They just aren;t made for boost. Some get lucky, some don;t. Some people have only made it 50 miles. Just all depends. If you have the money, do a rebuild before you put your kit on and you will never have to worry again unless you try and run stupid amounts of boost without enough fuel or something dumb like that. Otherwise I don;t see any way that NAWS is "safer" than a turbo. Answer me this, what happens when you lean it out when your spraying? Same thing as if you lean it out under boost. Actually I think you stand more of a chance "surviving" a lean condition under boost than on a bottle since it is less violent of a power surge. And of course the long term aspect of things....If you put a bottle on, and you lose it alot, how long do you think it will take before all the refills of the bottle surpass the amount you would have paid for a turbo kit???

The turbo is much safer than nitrous. Problem one with nitrous is you hit the button and it's an instant kick. That's a lot of additional stress on the engine (as with boost the turbo spools instead of suddenly boosting 6psi so it's more of a gradual thing). Also, with a turbo you can adjust it easier. Nitrous involves shots and you have to tune how much actually goes into the engine, while with a turbo you just set a boost controller up to the desired PSI and you're good to go. I know a guy who has nitrous and he used it for ever race he did and after about 6 months of that his car was in terrible shape. While nitrous is more bang for the buck, it's going to be more expensive in the long run (take into account all the times you have to fill the bottle and such when a turbo has MORE performance than a 100-shot) :D

i just turboed my car at 69XXX miles. ive only put about 200 miles on it, but all is well thus far. im already gonna start saving my bread for a junkyard 420A and then i plan to have jesus himself build me some forged internals....j/k. but i am gonna build it and then ill go crazy after i swap the built motor in. until then, i REFUSE to beat on my car and loose its reliability. im gonna run 6 psi, and im not gonna f*ck around with a mbc.

6psi is by no means pushing it. That is the recomended boost setting from Hahn. Your stock injectors should handle 6psi no problem, and the stock internals can go as high as 12psi IF TUNED PROPERLY. (DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE THE CASH TO REBUILD) This is not the case for every car though, some blow at 6psi some at 10psi. It all depends on something you can't account for, the condition of the engine. I ran my car hard at 8psi everyday on a t3/04e turbo for over a year, and didn't loose a single point on the comp test from the time I put it on till I droped the 2.2L in. The motor is still in perfect condition, in fact I am putting it into a neon that threw some rods so I can get that running.

put mine on at 80k and it blew at 100k, was just a small crack on the ringland also, wasn't even racing it just decided to crack on day haha, then again there was that night with the 20 PSI boost spike. O_0 My engine was weak already too the compression in the 160s when it was installed and slowly went down to 130 then to 30 haha.

Put mine on at 23k and it blew with only 35k... ran fine till i turned up the boost from 7 to 10/11.. Blew the piston and blew the head gasket.. got lucky cause that was it.. IF you gonna run over 8 put on atleast 310cc injectors to help the lean out of the motor.. NOT TO SAY YOUR PISTONS WONT GO!! Take everyones advise.. Nitrous is kewl no doubt but turbo is every damn time you hit your peddle to the floor yo.. Build yer motor and crank your boost way the F##@ up and you will be impressed beyond belief.. ask them all they will tell ya.. You can push over 300 to the wheels... get that with nitrous all day long.. aint gonna happen dude..:thumb:
