First time owning a 2g

So I have been building 1gs for almost 10 years...yesterday I finally broke down and bought a 2g.

I see a lot of people around town and stuff with paint matched center light pieces...people that wouldn't bother to take the thing off and paint it.

My question is what year/model came with those painted pieces... I have a white 98 and the center piece is red and says eclipse.

Is it easier to just paint it myself? Should I sand it first?

Wet sand it with 1500. Just take it off wet sand them paint then clear. Use normal paint process. As far as what year came painted I'm not sure if they did.

No 2g came with a painted taillight center piece, they were all red and matched the lens cover on the actual tails.

You're referring to the center section between the tail lights, they don't come painted from the factory as they all come red with "ECLIPSE" on it.

So yes to paint it you need to sand the factory clear off it. Use 1500 wet paper. Then paint it. Make sure you tape off the other stuff real good. I like where it matches the car.

Matching the center piece to the body color does look great on every OEM paint color, I'm not too fond of it done on the red 2gs though. So, if your car is any color but red, I'd say go for it! There is a thread about this with a ton of pictures...

It's not that I don't like it, just doesn't look as clean on the other colors.

Keep it stock red. Then make it a sleeper!
