When porting the relief valve, most people hog it out as big as they can thinking that it will help. It wont.

In fact, you can "port" it with a simple hand file and a bench vise.

Remove the piston and just open the mouth of the hole where it sits near the piston itself. Make it wide and flat. This is where people refer to it as the "D" shape. The flat part of the "D" is the only part that needs to be modified.

The piston doesnt move much. But when it does, the only restriction is the part of the casting where oil will flow out. File it so that its as close to the piston as possible, but also wide as possible. This way, more oil can escape efficiently. The oil will take the path of least resistance. When you take it apart, you'll see what I mean.

I've seen alot of people hog out a giant hole that resembles nothing like a "D". Then they complain about oil pressure staying the same. Shave down those corners near the piston and nothing else. Making a small hole into a bigger hole will do nothing for you.

I personally dropped from 120psi cold start, to 60psi cold start. At 8k rpm, I see roughly 85psi. Exactly where it should be. I have no oil squirters and no balance shafts. :thumb:
