Just to answer my own question and as a reference to anyone who searches in the future:

A 12" fan is the biggest that will fit with the stock A/C fan. For total replacement, one 12" fan and one 14" fan are the largest combo that will fit.

This must vary abit from manufacturer to manufacturer, as I know there's no way you can mount a 14" SPAL fan on a stock height rad core, unless your mounting it off the core surface & it comes out past the end tanks. 13" is the largest SPAL you can run.

I agree. You can also mount 2 x 12" SPALs.

Yup. Anything over 12", and it's going to overlap onto the endtanks. And it's definitely not a good idea to set up fans like that.

Two 12" Spal's on a stock 2G radiator:

A single 13" SPAL fan can be run & fit properly on the core when you position it with the two flat sides to the top & bottom. Its a tight fit with only mm's between the fan shroud & end tanks, but it will work. I have one of their 13" high performance models as my main fan, while I run a 12" for the AC fan as there's not enough core width for two 13" fans side by side.

Thanks for clarifying for me fellas. Just for my information, why is it a bad idea to overlap some of the fan on the endtank? This was what I was planning to do.

Fan blades create the highest pressure near or at the end of the blades themselves. If the blades extend past the radiator's heat exchange surface, let alone the end tanks, well..you can probably see where I'm going.

Another reason might be, for all I know, your hood might not close. Depending, of course.

The airflow around the fan area will flow like a river, in that, it will take the path of least resistance. If you put a solid 1" gap between the fan and the radiator core, the fan will pull/suck the majority of it's air through that gap, and less through the radiator core.

That's why SPAL used to factor in static pressure when figuring CFM output of their fans. The method of mounting the fans directly affects the static pressure, which directly affects the fans overall performance.

Since others might reference this thread for general fan info, I thought I'd offer this tidbit. The largest fan you can fit on the front of the a/c condensor between the frame and radiator support beams is a 10". I couldn't fit a fan on the backside of the radiator with my current turbo, so I looked at the front side and a 10" fit just about perfectly (very snug). So I run a 12" on the passenger side behind the radiator, and a 10" on the front of the a/c condensor on the driver's side.
