I have been battling creep with my big T28 since I installed it (I over did it with my 3" exhaust). With that said I have recently purchased a tial 38mm exxternal wastegate in order to help control/ eliminate this problem. Now that I have decided to do this I have a couple options as far installation of the wastegate: 1) directly on the manifold, or 2) modify my external dump O2 housing and the wastegate passage for the external WG. Which option will allow the WG to perform better? I apologize in advance if this question has been answered, but I did do a search. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

The best way of doing it would be too mount it on runner #1 on your manifold and block off the internal watergate.

Thanks for the reply, that is the direction I was leaning towards. I have read that some ppl recommend welding the WG flapper shut while others say just unhook it, what is your opinion?

I have an evo 16g and I am going with the external on the manifold, do I have to take the O2 housing off or can I well the arm on the outside of the turbo that contects to the flapper. Post any pics or helpful information. Thanks

Yea I know it will be harder to sell that why my friend suggested that I tack weld the arm that connects to the flapper so when I sell it someone else can just grind it off and use it again. Let me know what you think of that. Thanks

Hi,

Sorry to hack into this thread, but I am also deciding about an external waste gate. If you use the waste gate on the manifold, can you get a block off flange that mounts on the exhaust housing? I have seen the O2 housings with a flange that blocks off the hole for the waste gate and they have the normal tube for the exhaust flow.

Thanks,

Sven

yes you can if you have an O2 housing with and external dump tube. if not you need to buy one or the likley hood of an exhaust leak is in the future if the tons of welds are leaking. best bet for you guys/girls is spend the extra money, purchase an O2 housing with the wastgate port blocked off www.punishmentracing.com physically remove the internal wastegate and flapper and proceed with whatever process you are going to do with the external wastegate mounting.
