I have been reading through a lot of the exhaust treads and have seen a lot of upgrades with FULL exhaust systems and no complaints.

For some reason when i put a nearly full exhaust system on my 97 GS i started to loss power. I started with a OBX catback exhaust system... Awesome gain in power and sound no complaints there. put on and AEM cold air intake also very sweet. But after i put a high flow cat on the car took a fast drop i mean maybe even below stock. My buddy has a 2000 mustang GT and i could keep with or beat him till about half way through 3rd gear. Now he blows me away by car lengths.... To make a long story short i put the silencer on to increase the back pressure and now my car is back to its peppy self. Did i do something wrong?

I will be putting a turbo kit on in august so the back pressure issue will be resolved. But is there a simple fix for this problem now?

how big is your exhaust piping? if you installed anything bigger than 2 inches, there's definately a loss in backpressure. most of the aftermarket exhaust systems out in the market are directed towards the turbo dsm's, therefore the piping diameter is greater than what NT cars need for optimum performance. i myself have a 2.5 in. system and it's just killing me whenever i try to launch hard. well on the upside, you get better top end on bigger piping.

goodluck!

The piping is 2.5 and my top end did increase a little, but i still like the snappy accelation. Just glad to see im not the only one with a back pressure problem. I just dont like the rattle sound my silencer makes and was hoping there was a way i can get rid of that with having to put the cat back on.

Thanks for the info
