We all know that mitsubishi installed another crappy part on their motors called a balance shaft. This will ultimately lead to vibration and cause your motor to leak out out of the side of the motor and eventually take the motor to the grave, I know this because it just happened to me this weekend. Here is a rule of thumb, just replace the damn thing with a balance shaft eliminator kit. It costs $50.00 and a little bit of labor... well alot or labor actually if you're doing it yourself. So let's see $50.00 - 200.00 with labor or $2,000-$3,000? You make the decision, but if you let it go on you'll end up like me, and that is nothing but a dead motor and a puddle of oil, not a good scene.

Umm.. They dont lead to vibration. They stop vibration. But if the belts are about to give then of course they wil vibrate because then the shafts wont work right.

keep the insults outta the tech forums

ok... back on topic, you should've checked your crank pully and power steering pully. How strong was the vibration?
Did you have new belts?
Although the balance shaft could've been the problem....
I bet you whoever told you the problem was your balance shaft dosn't know what they were talkin about

A knoob... did you make that up d|psh|t? Too cool to say "you're new"? As far as the vibration is concerned, it doesn't matter anymore because the motor is blow thanks to THE DAM BALANCE SHAFT! Power steering belt?? Are you crazy? That has NOTHING to do with it. Let's see I had an orginal 97 motor in my 97 GSTand there was no vibration... but crankwalk killed it. NO ONE TOLD, I SAW THE BEARING. Put a 94 motor in and there was vibration... SAME ACCESSORIES KEEP IN MIND. 2 weeks later it spews oil out the side and begins the vibrate more and then somethings gives and I have no power and something rattling around in the motor. NO ONE TOLD ME EITHER, I SAW THE RESULTS! I check the oil and there is metal shavings in it.... hmmm sounds like a motor mount right??? or maybe a power steering pully .... NO, how about I'm right and there is an objecting dumba$$ above who thinks that his tenure on this board allows him to say that some who is new doesn't know anything. I posted this as just some food for thought for the people that may have experienced similar issues... jus take my advice and get a balance shaft eliminator kit if you don't already have one, THAT'S ALL!

Well, crappy enough that Porsche paid Mits licensing money to use them in the 944.

You drove this around for _how_ long with a tooth-loosening vibration, without getting it looked at?

I guess you're right, it must be Mitsubishi's fault.

The eliminator kit does give it a little vibration but it will elminate the possibility of the part taking your motor out, plus it'll give you about 6-12hp at the wheels for only $50, what a deal!!!
