2G Engine rebuild.

Ok everybody my 98 gst has 72xxx miles on it. It is a show car but I still have some power on it. I have a hahn super 16g turbo. Greddy front mount, Hks ssqv blow off recirculated, apexi n1 turbo back exhaust, Upgraded fuel pump, I have other things as well but they arent as important. So my question is, is it time for a rebuild. I do notice the smell of oil burning and I have already replaced the valve stem seals as well as the lifters. I dont get on it all that much but if i wanted to I would like to think I can with out blowing the thing up. Which way would you go and about how much do you think it will be. Everybodys info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

I would recommend doing a compression test to see how things are sealing. As far as the oil smell it could be a lot of things. I would definately make sure that it isn't oil leaking some where onto your exhaust.

yeah do a compression test. that will really tell you alot about the engine. and check for any oil leaks. gasket do go bad so it could be something as simple as that. good luck

72K isn't bad for a 98 eclipse, i been in your shoes befor. when i got my first dsm, i just got the lower and upper gasket kit, from any of the vendors and had a shop do it.

this was my first car a 91 gsx with 120+++k, im the type of person that i like to have peace of mind and i didnt know much about dsm's.
Now its my 4 dsm and i have done this 5+ times on my car and friends.

Thanks everybody I totally forgot about the compression test. The turbo itself only has about 2000 miles on it so I think that the seals on it would be ok. But I will start with the compression test and go from there. I have a sneaky suspisicion that its my rings.

Also, check the valve cover for cracks or leaks, leaking anywhere down the head or onto the exhaust?

Maybe even the intake manifold is getting hot enough there is a small leak on the backside of the valvecover causing a stinky oily smell.
