I feel like I've seen it before and I'm just doing a bit of research out of curiosity. Is there a write-up or info on someone flipping our engine to be inline with the driveshaft? Same orientation as the mighty-max I believe. Just want to become informed because I'm looking at a similar idea myself.

This website has a ton of great info! Thank you. Not much about fitting stuff in a 2g. It's nice to know the stuff about the rx7 trans but what I'm most concerned about it engine mounting solutions, trans-tunnels and driveshafts.

    It will all be custom.
You'll have to cut the tunnel to fit a trans, fab f new front cross member, mounts, possibly front suspension modifications etc.
Not a light-hearted undertaking, lots of custom fab fab work.

kevin jewer would be the perfect person to talk to on that. he own sigma six tuning as well as marion county raceway in ohio. he has a rwd converted 1gb so its right up your alley.

What's his DSMTuners tag? If he has one... essentially the point I'm trying to get across is that I might want to go RWD on one of the cars, but taking out the front axles and buffing the rear just doesn't feel proper enough.

Converting a FWD/AWD car to RWD is a lot of work, and in my opinion not necessarily worth the trouble. It requires a lot of cutting and fabbing, creating structure where there isn't any, coming up with some kind of front suspension (the front K member has to go away) and steering, etc. You can spend a lot of time and money here.

On the other hand, if you start with any other RWD vehicle, 90% of that work is done for you. It already has a front suspension and steering system that works, rear axle and related structure, etc. Considering a Mighty Max as an example, it's really just a motor/trans swap at worst, wiring, etc.

I'm not sure if this helps or not. In the meantime, here is a random pic of the front end of my car. It's a Strange Ultra Strut deal with a typical manual racing rack. You can also see the mid plate setup, trans tunnel, etc.
