From what I understand BOV's open to let the overpressure out when your throttle plate is closed from letting off the accelerator right??? I know there is an electric solenoid to control the psi electronically for the waist gate but if ## controlling the waistgate/boost electronically how do u tell the BOV to open at said psi? the only BOV's I know of have set psi springs in them... Or did I just demonstrate my ignorance on the topic? WTF

Hehe, kind of...

BOVs don't work exactly like wastegates. BOVs open because of a pressure differential created while shifting. As soon as the butterfly valve in the throttle body snaps shut, vacuum (rather than boost) is created within the intake manifold. Boost is, however, still present in the IC piping, where the BOV is located. This boost, in combination with the complementary force of vacuum is what opens the BOV. Thus, most BOVs open when there is a difference of about 7psi between the intake manifold and the IC pipes. Because it operates based on a pressure differential, rather than one set boost level, BOVs work at many different pressure levels while using the same spring.

you explained it perfectly and the article was even more helpful - thanks
