EGT temperature probe dead?

How do you know when your EGT probe is dead? Just curious, cause recently, my EGT gauge has been flickering around instead of staying in one spot. I have double checked my wiring and it's A-OKAY!. Any suggestions what to look for or is the temperature probe dead? It's a TRE probe hooked up to a Autometer EGT gauge.

Having same probs with the tre probe. I guess you can check it by using a cigerete lighter and a voltmeter. You should get less than 1 volt )(.10)
