i read about this and all i know is that supposly keep the TB clean to avoid maintance. but is this the only benefit out of it? do you get perfomance out of it?

You really do not gain performance from this modification but it does clean up the engine bay a lot. By blocking the EGR, you can basically elliminate your charcoal canister and most of your vacume lines in the engine compartment. This, of course, will not allow your car to pass emissions but neither will test pipes.

As was already mentioned, the benefit is that all the nasty crap that builds up in your TB and int. manifold will no longer accumulate. You won't pass emissions. As for performance, the EGR valve doesn't operate under WOT, so it doesn't have any direct effect on performance. A racecar must mod, a streetcar maybe mod.

how About the idea of keeping your intake temps a little cooler?
is That not really worth it to you guys?

mine's gone, but I can't say it's faster than it was before, since I never had one since the motor went in the galant.

and yes, it *DOES* Clean it up, under the hood.
I have no solenoids in there..... but I get the CE every once in a while

Ah, gotta love that AFC. To do this all you have to do is cut out a piece of metal (can even be from a Coke can) and place it between the EGR valve and the IM. Then you remove all the lines that normally go with it. On a 2g, there are lines running underneath the IM, then there is the all the charcoal lines...Argh! You will most likely get a CEL randomly, just reset your ECU to clear it.

You can not use just a coke can. I tried to use the back off an electrical box cut to the right shape and it leaked really bad under pressure. Just so you know, you can leave the EGR valve on the mount and just unhook all the vacume lines and the valve will not open and it seals off perfectly. If you want a block off plate, order one from mitsu. They came on all 1.8liter 1gs so it is an actual part number.

I bought a sheet of 16ga steel. I cut it to the shape of the egr. I did it because of a bad idle surge, didn't help.

It lower my intake temp by almost 200 degrees, checked by mechanic with some special tool.

But there is a spin off. Because of the increased fuel effiecincy, the exhuast temp, increase alot.

But best of all, I got a 20hp increase as documented on a dyno jet, 2 pulls before, 2 after.

I would suggest it, maybe you'll get the same results as me.
