ECU/PCM/"chip"??

The search didn't reveal a whole lot about specific aftermarket PCMs or ECUs.

Aside from Venom, is there a good aftermarket "computer" that you guys have had good luck with?
 
I did a ton of research on the Venom 400 and the way the info and method is layed out it SHOULD help your performance. None the less I do trust the wise peopel on here and other places that also claim it does nothing. I am un-decided but it doesn't matter. I paid $50 for the PCM and sold it for $150- score for me (and you guys thought I blew my $)

Ends up imma brake even. Travis gave me $50 installed it, and still owed me $100 (I trust him he's my friend) but it turns out the PCM is fried? The led was tweeking and apparently it only worked some of the time, he says he had it tested. So now I get a chip thats fried (I'm assuming he turned it on or off while the car was running? is that what would do it?) Anyway I broke even and now I have a PCM that tweeks, WTF am I suposed to do w/ that? Any1 wanna buy it? :D
 
I'm not following you here. Most everyone else uses the terminology "Tweek" when they are fine tuning something.

What the Venom does is bypass the TPS sensor once the signal from the TPS is 35% or more. Basically.... at 36% air flow there's now 100% fuel, timing is changed to match what the computer THINKS it should be at for 100% TPS at X number of RPM.

I ran this both on the street and at the track. Being an automatic, it REALLY messed with my computer because the TPS position dictates transmission gear selection. So instead of just clipping along at 40% throttle, a decent acceleration, the computer slams the transmission down and the car tries to drive faster than I actually want it to. At the track I made several passes with the Venom 400 turned on and off. The end result was that there were NO passes with the venom on that were any quicker than with it turned off.

About the only thing I did notice differently was that at true wide open throttle my TPS went to like 85-90%. With the venom, the wot reading went to 100%. Now, I was one of the first guinea pigs and bought the thing nearly 2 years ago. Was it worth it, hell no. 10-15% extra fuel at WOT and a car that tries to run wide open even at part throttle is just way too much for my taste. If it's for $50 then it's not the biggest waste of money. But still a waste.

When I unloaded mine the LED no longer lit up but the Controller still worked. Don't know about the blinking part.

whats the difference between the 95 and 96 n/t's ecu ?........because the AFX chip wont work on the 95 n/t's
 
95 PCM's on the 2gnt's are not required to be completely OBDII compliant. It wasn't until 96 that they all had to be OBDII. There are a few components that are emissions related that were not introduced until 96 for the 2gnts such as evaporative leak detection systems.

Externally, the 95's use a single 60 pin connector that corresponds to the PCM. 96 and newer all ran 2 40 pin connectors.

they don't have it out yet for the 98 and 99's. we are the only years to share the same ecu but they chose to do ours last b/c ours are the most sophisticated out of all the 2gnt's.

so there wont be a AFX Chip for the 95 n/t's ? that really blows if they dont.........so that means im stuck with the POS Venom 400 and JET.... :(
