OK so 221 kw comes out to about 290 HP, right? That sounds pretty good. How much does your car weigh? one pound =.454 kilograms.

works out as 300 front wheel hp, car weighs 1029kgs without driver :D but lose my big heavy chrome wheels and all the unnessesary items and can get her deep into he 900kg mark

Not bad. I've wondered what it would be like to have a nice 4G63 in a small, light car. Whenever I go to a salvage yard I can't help but look under the hood of some Mirage/ Colt bcause it amazes me that the motor mounts are in the exact same place. With projects like that I start to appreciate platform sharing.

A friend of mine has a 89 mirage hatch with a 4g63 from a JDM RS Galant with the big 16g, data logger, and many other mods. He is at 279whp @ 15psi, and @ 19 psi is at 308 whp...And I've seen his dyno slips to proove it. Not sure of his gross vehicle weight though.

i think i know the one your talking about, mind you that car is tuned ;) mine isnt, if i had some sort of data logging system and with the mods done to date, 350-380hp atw would be acheivable, but thats verging on the limits of my turbo :(

I love that the Mirage is as light as a civic but with the power of an Eclipse:thumb:. And I hear the swap is not that bad.

So what year/model is the lightest? Is it the hatchback or the sedan style lighter? Can anyone point to a good site to find this info? Thanks.

The 89 mirage/colt hatch has a 4g61 turbo, so its almost a direct bolt in(you need a 1g ecu and maf). Anything else and the sdwap is much more difficult.

just like the 96+ mirage/lancers, evo or GSR engines bolt straight in

The 88 Colt/Mirage is the lightest I understand, But the body of that car was a dodge and looks different than the 89 Colt/Mirage.

This has got me thinking, that when I get my brothers 1990 TSI That maybe I should just fix it up as a nice car. And not go mod happy on it. (stop at mid 13's)

And later find a colt or Mirage to build the speed demon out of.

I have a few questions though.

Could some one post the weights of the various yr's the cars were in production?

I was haveing trouble finding pics of these cars on google. Could some one post pics?

And if I am not mistaken these cars are RWD correct? (which is what I realy want, I was looking for ways to make a 1G TSI a RWD car and just figured it's not realistic)

So this sounds perfect. Sorry if I am high jacking the thread.

The 4G63 will fit in almost everylast car built buy or with Mitsubishi. The lightest car is the 4 speed carberated kind.88 and 89 Mirages are different bodystyles.88 looks like a colt and 89 looks like a mirage.Ive even conteplated on a 2.3 stroker in N/A form to dump into a Hyundai Excel.Like Rodney Kings Infamous White Hatch.

Don't mirages and colts look like each other year for year? So it would be just as valid to say the 88's look like Mirages and the 89's look like colt's....

I think what he meant was that between 88 and 89 is when they updated the model. 88 looked shorter, like a Horizon. 89 and up got the longer rear hatch look.

Ripper, these cars are FWD. It's easy to find pictures at www.autotrader.com

I had an idea the other day. I already have a 90 Laser turbo FWD. What if I got a Mirage and swapped both motors, then sold the Laser with the 1.6 SOHC engine? I could probably do it for cheap!

Would it be blasphemy to make a 1.6l DSM?
Would the Hot Rod Gods smile on me for making a 2000 pound 300 HP car for under $1000? Or would they ban me to eternal crankwalk damnation for turning a sweet sports car into a hollow shell with a wheezer motor?

I'm also not sure if I could keep my DSM tranny. Would the axles fit? Oh, well I don't have any money right now anyway, so for now it's just a dream. For now....
