I'll try and summarize this as quickly as possible. Originally I was planning on getting the 3" DSS Aluminum driveshaft rated for 650HP. Then for years it was not available so I thought it was discontinued and would have to go with the 3.5" rated to 950HP. Now that I'm getting serious about buying it I see that I can get the 3" again.

So I have two questions. Giving the parts I'm targeting for the build and depending on the tuning and setup I could exceed the 650 threshold giving others results with their builds and would rather not build my foundation barely supporting the structure above so that leads me to wanting to go with the 3.5" regardless.

My second question/concern, which will most likely be the deciding factor is clearance issues. Can I easily fit the 3.5" and a full 3" exhaust? I'm sure others must have built with this same setup. Any info on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm in the same boat and called DSS directly as all their shafts are built to order. He'd said they're about 4-8 weeks out depending on their workload. They only build the 3.5 now, so, anything you'd find otherwise would be a rare case of the NOS 3" unit in stock somewhere, or a used piece.
Man, I wish a 1 piece would work in these 1Gs. You're saving a shitload of rotating mass in the right place though, in my opinion/application/driveability/launching (DS vs lighter flywheel). Plus reducing the shock to the drive train. Good stuff here.
I'm going to replace the 2 tight u joints and carrier bearings for now and save up for the DSS unit, just to get this thing rolling.
Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

I thought it was. I see the 3” on a couple websites now , extremepsi included. For the little extra money I’ll probably just get the 3.5” but wanted to make sure I had a way to fit everything. Not gonna save, gonna put on a CC for my birthday! :thumb:
No where near ready for it but just one of those parts I’ve been looking at forever and want in the parts pile already..

Yeah, man I'd be curious if they actually have the 3" units there. 3.5" does seem like it's gonna be tighter than shit with 3" exhaust as enriquez2000 said.
Haha, hell yeah, go for it! Happy birthday!
Let's see some pics when you get it in, too.

For those that dont know... extreme will NOT have the shaft in stock. Most likely either size. They take the prder amd then pass it to DSS to assemble. You WILL be waiting to get either one most likely. I believe its typically 4 to 6 weeks.

You CAN have one made for less if you have a shop near you that makes them. It MAY save you time and money. You WILL need to bring yours in so they can take all measurements and build it.

Ordered the 3.5”. From my research it’s the only one that goes with the upgraded 25 spline t-case, so guess that’s a definite on the parts list now too. Not sure if I’ll ever reach the power goals to justify it but we’ll have plenty of room to grow.

I doubted it too after all this time, just found it curious that it showed in stock now after years of out of stock. And others showing it in as well that didn’t before. Been stalking this for a while, LOL.
Not til next month but thank you. Will do!

Well it was in stock at Extreme and here already. With upgraded sonnax 25 spline yoke. Now hopefully I can make it fit with the big exhaust, guess we’ll find out in….3,…4 years?

Well dang! Good score! I love mine!

I got the regular yoke but you can order upgrade parts easy enough!

I said Wthell, I’ll just upgrade the case when rebuilt
Good idea! I blew a case up once. Was no fun

Yah I don’t wanna do that, trying to plan as bullet proof as possible within reason and not being rich with dumb money to blow, LOL.

Just snapped these for some reference. This is the 3” DSS and a 3.5” exhaust.
