I have a 1990 eagle talon tsi awd with DSMlink v3. My vehicle was in a flood but my ECU still looks amazingly clean. I don't have my Link cable to hook up to the laptop to see if it'll connect. Any of you local guys can swing by or I can drop by and bring my ecu to see if it still operable? I would greatly appreciate it. :hellyeah:

I don't know if any 90 would work in a 93. You'd have to check on that.

man you guys have that same red vehicle in the avatar, i thought yall were the same person haha. (i shoulda read the names)
I think i'll have to switch those two pins, connect the ecu, the battery, and try again. i had matched the wires from the chewed up plug but since it didn't connect, i was leaning that it could be because of that.(the dsmlink cable) You mentioning the pin swap gives me another thing to try so i get to keep the cable in play for now : thanks Marty

Well a 91 up ecu can play with a 90 car if rewired right. Just a 2 pin swap on the plug IIRC.

I ain't going to be able to test it because my usb connector is rusted & jacked up. If anyone has a 90s model DSM or 91-94 with pin 16 & 4 swapped on the ECU, I need your help. I need to test my ECU to see if its functional.

Is youecu a 90 ECMLink V3 with eprom added or is it a normal 91-94 ECMLink V3? if its a normal ECMLink V3 then any 91-94 car can just plug it in and test it.

I can repair it, usb has 4 wires. i just have to
it's most definitely repairable. I rather have some one just hook up my ecu and let me know it works, then i'll repair this cable myself easily. I don't want to duck out 50$, and still be on the same boat with no vehicle to test it. but then again, i ain't gettin no help locally so i might as well just repair that end. and get the wire switchin on my harness ..im impatient

I guess what I mean is that there is no reasonable way to repair it other than to cut the end off, but you can probably get a new one for not that much money, making it in my opinion not necessarily repairable but more-so replacement in order, if you have the will and the skills though, go for it!

A man after my own heart right here, I don't like the disposable society we have but most people would never take on the task of actually cutting the end off of a cord and replacing it these days which is why I suggested its not repairable because simply cleaning it up wouldn't work, it needs a new end.

I've done that myself, and its do-able as I was saying, just that most would consider it a throw away but I would at least try to fix it, I didn't say that I doubted you anywhere, just stated that most wouldn't fix it, to explain why I suggested its not fixable (to most it wouldn't be).

I misinterpreted your responses, plus like you've mentioned.. just about everyone i know would replace or not even look at it twice. I thought you were another one. I apologize MotoMattx

I like to call it "Repurposing" which I also do. :thumb:
I have the millions of cords like @pieceofcloth and would hack one up too. I hacked a transformer the other day because I needed BLACK wire for the engine bay to wire in my fuel pressure sensor. Perfect cord!
Way to be "responsible" by not tossing it in the trash! :)
