I came up with a thought today and wondered if this would work, or wreck my trans. I have been DD a shift box with auto trans for almost a year now, and really love it, the only downside is you really cant downshift unless you are under about 1k RPM or stopped. If you do it above that, it jerks really hard, tweets tires, ect (I done it on accident a few times) and that cant really be good for the trans. So I was thinking that If I shift into neutral, shift to the gear I want, RPM match what I should be at, and shift into drive, would it work smoothly? or would it not work as well.

for example I am going from a 55 mph zone to a 30mph zone and want to down shift from 4th to 2nd. So could would putting my car in neutral, selecting down to second, and match the rpm my car should be at in that gear, say 3k (just and example) and shift into drive would it pick up normally?

id imagine that would work. but youd have to be right on the money when you rpm match or else you'll get a worse jerk

It jerks up and down either way, But it is really bad when it is done above 1.5k,

Do it just like you would with a manual transmission, rev the engine slightly above the desired rpm and stick it in drive. I would only do it if you're good at it in a stick.

Why not go from 4th to third, braking then to second? Mine works just fine if you go gear by gear, but not into first..

Also I'll see what I can do about this issue.Just don't go into first while moving. It's really hard on trans.

Yea 1st is always the hardest, in and out. I ussually keep my car in 2nd, I can accelerate fast enough from stops, and I can cruise at about 30mph with out having my rpm's high, I was just wondering if it would work in a auto trans just like a stick, but I am not that good with stick.

yea I done that before. I was just wondering like If I ever need to drop stright from 4th to 2nd for what ever reason if it would work like that.

Just a thought that I had, wondering if maybe somebody tried it.

I am actually pretty good at the whole rev match thing. I do have to say the eclipse is the hardest I have done it on.

My talon. I dont have a TCU anymore I am running straight off a shiftbox
