The Newbie forum was originally created to be something of a garbage forum where New Members (those with fewer than 30 tech posts and 30 days registered) would post their Newbie questions, keeping the other Tech Forums cleaner with fewer repetitive (and newbie) questions. For the most part, it's achieved that goal. We limit New Members to this forum so they can learn and make their mistakes before being allowed to post in the other tech forums where things are a little more strict and the expectations are higher.

Recently, we've found that more users are getting into the bad habit of replying to threads in this forum with unhelpful replies, telling users to "use the search" and posting cute little graphics with that same message. This not only goes against the spirit of our site and violates our rules, but it goes against the spirit of the Newbie forum. Your post should include helpful information, whether it be links or content. Leave out the suggestion of using the search (let the moderators handle that). If you're tired of seeing repetitive questions, you probably shouldn't be spending too much time in the Newbie forum, where repetitive questions are almost certain to be posted. Do not post unhelpful replies to repetitive questions or you'll risk losing your posting privileges. If you're a New Member and are tired of seeing newbie or repetitive questions, put some time in and answer some questions to reach your 30 tech post quota so you can be bumped to Proven Member status (see the Membership Status section of the Rules & Policies page linked in the Forum menu for more info) and you won't be stuck in the Newbie forum.

Also, if you're not a New Member, there are few reasons why you should be posting questions in the Newbie forum. Sometimes there isn't a better forum to post some general questions, but in most cases there is. Do not post questions in the Newbie forum if you're not a New Member. Proven Members should be posting replies to questions in this forum, not questions. That's another reason we're seeing frustration in this forum - it's too crowded. Let the Newbies ask Newbie questions here while you post your questions in one of the other tech forums.
