18x8 with the same offset is possible. Just change tire size. I prefer more flush looking wheels/tires like the Red 2G with the 8.5" pic above. Just have to do you're calculations. The 17s work for me b/c they are usually cheaper to buy grippier tires for than 18s. Those tires you see in my pic are going to be "close to bald and unsafe" in a week when I'm done with them.
I won't go above 18s b/c of preference and I just personally think they are more 'car-show' style, but everyones different. You make it drive good and look good, than it's fine.
I didn't really roll the rears too much b/c my rears are neg. camber and they clear.
Rims and tires make the car (for looks), especially the tires if you care about grip.
