Just got my car all back together and I decided to cut a vent in a hood I had in the backyard. It worked out perfectly because this hood had a good sized dent right where I cut the hole.

It's a super cheapo job:

The mesh type fence material costs $8.95 at home depot, edge molding from the Vatozone for like $12 and a couple cans of black plasti-dip for about $11 to paint the hood black. If the paint wasn't destroyed on this hood, I wouldn't even have painted it black. I can really feel a ton of head coming out of this thing when it's at operating temp. I probably could have went a little higher up on the hood to be more over the manifold, but I really wanted to cut around the dent that was in the thing. :aha:

i wonder how water getting in there especially if you drive in the rain will affect the manifold

I thought about that but I don't drive it in the rain anyway. The DSM is only a weekend, car meet and track warrier. There isn't even a windshield wiper motor or wipers on it anymore. I did think about installing some louvered sheet metal under the mesh and making some sort of rain catch like the jeep guys do, but ehh, it's only a toy at this point.

I had a similar idea, but mine really isnt that aesthetically pleasing.
I know the underhood temps get a little ridiculous on these cars, so I tried to come up with a nice looking hood scoop that would allow the heat to escape.
I bought an aftermarket Carbon Fiber 2000-05 Celica hood scoop and started playing around with it
So far I shaved all the legs off the bottom and Ive started shaving it down to sit flush on the hood.
It bothers my eye a bit, so ill only continue to work on it if I need to vent the engine bay better.
Its not beautiful, but its also kinda cool!
If I end up using it down the road, Ill be making it water resistant, by adding a rain drip guard hidden inside, with tubing to expel the moisture to the ground.
