Ok so my Talon was sitting in the driveway and a truck was in my driveway delivering something and the driver hit the talon on the driver side door. They dont want to go through there insurance company which is fine but the car is not on the road and I dont want to tow it somewhere for an estimate. They offered 500$ does this sound fair? I think it is but I would like an experts opinion.

Thanks for anyones help

Looks like the door has a bad paint job to start?

Would depend on your area, but around here (I would think being in the US, cost would generally be slightly less on average), most body shops seem to be around the $500 mark anytime you need something painted.

I would think $500 cash would cover the repair.

I had my earlier dsms in the paint shop a lot due to accidents, I learned a lot plus I worked a mitsu dealer while in college, I I watched the body shop guys a lot taught myself some ins and outs, took me a few hours to get some dents out, with bondo and sanding. You could find a door then paint it or have it painted.

You have three options on how to go about it.

1) You can replace the door with a salvage yard door, and have it painted. That would cost between $250-$350 for paint alone (including having the jamb painted) plus whatever the door costs you.

2) The door skin can be replaced by a body shop A skin generally isn't too expensive, probably between $50 and $150. Then paint would probably cost $200-$300 and the entire jamb would not have to be re painted.

3) Have them pull the dent as best they can and fill it. You would probably have $50-$100 in labor plus $200-$250 for paint because they would just have to paint the outside of the door.

All of this is assuming they will not have to blend into the fender and quarter panel. Depending on the fade in your paint and how close they can get it to match. Judging by the pics, it looks like your car has been painted before (and not a very good job at that) so matching might not be possible. Blending into both the fender and door would probably add another $200 ish, possibly more. But that side of the car would not look all orange peeled.

The previous paint job definitely looks sub-par. Your best bet would be to grab a few reputable estimates as stated above, and then decide how much money you're willing to put into the car based on how long you plan on keeping it. If you feel that $500 won't fix it properly then tell them that.

You can also call up local body shops and ask to email the pictures for an estimate. Those pics are really good. Personally, I'd get an estimate from every shop and ask them how they'd repair it. Then go from there based on the repair info they provide.

Ex... 'We just take our toilet plunger and pull that sucker out, don't even need to clean it first. Then take our angle air die grinder, slap a 2" roloc pad in there and go to town. And since the previous tool exhausts air as it works, it blows off and keeps the area clean, so cleaning before paint won't be necessary. Lastly, get a rattle can closest to the original color (won't even notice the difference) and spray 10 layers with about 2 minutes between each coat (don't worry we use a blow gun to speed up drying) Oh, the guys are cranked up on speed, that's how we're done in 30mins or less.

Got a little carried away, couldn't delete it though.
