i wasted about 3 and a half hours today taking my lifters out and cleaning them... and put it all back together and them bastards still tap!! i guess i am going to just buy a set of 3rd GEN. lifters, but has anyone used them yet, i know MACHV.COM sells them, but they don't mention what all they fit into...

Quite a lot of people on here use the revised lifters.

After you clean them they will usually tick for a little while, up to 10-15 minutes. Drive the car around for a day and it should go away.

You have to clean very thoroughly to make it work.

before i tried cleaning them it seemed as if a few of them made a distinct ticking noise, and once i cleaned them all of the chattered for about 2 or 3 minutes and then they quieted down but that one distinct tick is still there...hopefully it will go away.. also has anyone ever ran evo lifters?

A couple of suggestions: Check the parts store shelves for any of the additives that are for hydraulic lifters, and give it a run for whatever the label recommends. Then, after the oil change, try some Rislone Restore. I don't know why, but DSM motors seem to love the stuff. It sure won't hurt anything, and you're only risking about fifteen bucks.

Here's what I've found. With Mobil 1 and a Wix oil filter, my lifters tap only when it's really really cold. Otherwise, nothing. With Royal Purple/Amsoil, they tick like mad when first warming up. Mobil 1 10w30 all the way:thumb:

changed oil to mobil 1 full synth 10w-30, got new mobil one filter, cleaned with GUNK engine cleaner= no lifter tick for me.

I just barely switched to the Mobil 1 1030 full syn, but still click. Does it take a couple of changes to have an effect? I understand I should be using an OE oil filter with the Mobil 1. Any other filter better?

When it warms up, is 5 30 an option to thicken it up a little?

i forgot to mention this..but the car already has revised lifters in it, the guy who owned the car before me installed them and he said it was only about a month after installation that they started ticking..so i guess some of the lifters are defective..also i run mobil 1 oil and filter...i guess i am just going to buy the revised lifters from slowboy racing.. $150 dollars isn't all that bad either for a whole set..thanks for all the info
