Update.

The car went to my daughter’s hand all ready, so she owns it now, but I’ll be taking care of her still.

The last thing I did to it was, fixing the brake noise, it end up being the brake pad hardware, I fixed the door switch and the valve cover leak, I just tightened the bolts and it stopped the leak, I hose it off to clean and degrease the engine bay and take it to her.

I cleaned the headlight because they were really bad, I can barely see the light at night, so I had to clean it up before going with her.

So just for the records, I will post some pics for the viewers.

Update.
Is being a long time since I work on the car and today I took it off my daughters hands to do a maintenance.

She called me saying the driver side door doesn’t opens from the outside, it only open from the inside,.

I removed the handle and found an aftermarket still bracket ( the one pushes the rod to open), the metal is thin and week, so it bend and not able to push the rod all the way,
So I replaced the metal with a factory one and it did the job.
while I was there I took of the surrounding plastic trim from the handle and the cylinder key to remove the paint, I took all the paint from it including the one hold the cylinder and install everything back together. I really hated seeing it all painted and today was the fest time to fix that problem.

While working on the door, I install the door panel screws with caps (or whatever is called)

Pics are inserted for the viewers, you can see the engine intact the same way it was when she took her, Lookslike she didn’t drive it much.

Great thread. Thanks for keeping it updated.

We’ve owned many DSMs and never knew there were originally caps for the screws on the door panels. We’ve always thought the exposed screws made the car look cheap(er). Were those originally on the car, or did you source those from somewhere else?

Thanks I try to update the thread but now in my daughters hand, I won’t be able to work on it so often.
The screw caps are originals, I new that with my first DSM, it was a second owner and was unmolested in stock form.

I used to go to the junkyard so often and get all of the caps and screw that I found, The ascrew has to match the caps though, you can’t use the caps on a different screw, it has its own.

Here is a pic of the screw head next to the cap.

I forgot to mention, I drove the car andI still feel the transmission acting up when putting into gear.

I ordered a IPT end clutch, we’ll see if that cures the problem, besides the hesitation when puti y ito gear all feels ok, but like I mention earlier, I have no experience with auto transmissions but putting new parts will make the transmission more reliable.
