My car has been bucking on acceleration and deceleration and sure enough my right cv joint is torn. How much would it cost for someone to replace them?

Why not do it yourself? Is isnt that hard if you have a haynes service manual, and then you can just go to the junkyard and pick up a used cv joint for like 80-100 dollars. It takes about an hour and a half.

you wont have to replace it too. I helped my dad replace his cv joint on his 94 corolla, and we go it from the junkyard. This was a year and a half ago.

For $75 it's either going to be rebuilt and returned to you or you're buying a reman, which was rebuilt and you just never see your original one again.

It all depends on the condition of the joint, the amount of time the boot has been torn, how much grease has slung out and finally how much dirt has gotten in to it.

If the axle is making any noise, creating any wobble on acceleration then you should replace them. If the boot has not been torn long and ALL of the grease is still not slung out then you will probably be ok doing a boot replacement so long as you clean the old grease and dirt out of it.

If you've got 70,000+ miles on it you might want to consider a reman or performance axle (FWD only). Most of the AWD's don't need great axles until they really start putting down some good numbers since the rear wheels are doing some work too.

well you can put all the used parts on your car you wan't but i wouldn't just about all new calipers, cv axle's, starters, & alternators are remanufactured. I replaced both of my cv axle's for $150 for the fronts.

If the boot is torn, that wouldn't cause any of the problems you are describing. When an joint goes bad imakes a horrible sound, but I don't think it would affect your acceleration or deceleration. Does the joint make any noises ?

A bad CV joint can have a couple of different characteristics. It can make a clicking noise while turning (on ones starting to go bad), a constant clicking noise in any direction (on it's last leg), a shimmy from side to side when accelerating.

Funny this should come up. I just had my whole axle shaft (cv boot, joint etc) replaced today. HUGE pain in the arse. I was only experiencing wheel vibration and it turns out the boot had ripped away in two places. It wasn't making any noise at all however. The reason why they had to replace the whole thing instead of the boot was because we couldn't get the shaft out, it had rusted solid. I know this doesn't help, but it just think its funny that I just had to do that work today. Umm... yep, pointless post.
