I like how they were all 18....

Where the #### they get 10k to spend on their cars???

####ing spoiled basterds...
Crush the car. They will just have mommy and daddy get them a new one.

The cops should at least scrap the cars...Raise more money for the state that way.

Ahh well.

You'd be suprised what hard work can do. I earned well around 10k when I was 18. A part-time job during the school year brought in ~$5000 and a solid summer internship brought in ~$6000.

Granted if I didn't consume anything but car parts it would have been possible... but I know of other internships that paid upwards of $12000 just for the summer.

Don't be too quick to judge! :nono:

I think cars involved in DUI's should be crushed.... I wouldn't give a rat's ass if they did that.... in fact, it'd probably make the roads a lot more safer.

Oh and to the guy commenting about how ferrari's and porsches and such should be crushed off the lot (according to police theory).... most people that own those cars have a lot of money and don't drive like retards.... you know how often I see a turbo carrera or a z06 vette with some old ass dude in it cruisin the speed limit? You know how much more often I see a honda civic full of hispanic kids hauling ass with their lawn-mower with a miss exhaust? #### those tards... hispanic or white, or black or asian... doesn't matter, drive like an idiot.... rice your car out so you look like an idiot.... get your car crushed. I wouldn't care, because I will never fit that bill. And 90% of the dsm people I know absolutely despise rice anything, and are good drivers.... AND don't just blatently haul ass all the time.

Idiots deserve to have their cars crushed, drunk or stupid, take your pick... they don't deserve a car.

Oh, another good one....

The driver's license exam should be a lot more difficult it's too easy for people that can't drive well to have a valid license.

I'm sure 99% of people reading this thread will agree with you. But that's not the case in point everyones worried about.

Say you were pulled for a taillight and you had an after market exhaust. It's the one mod you can't really conceal and that stands out big-time to cops. So say he pulls you over, pops your hood after seeing your exhaust and then pulls the same stolen tranny/throttle body/turbo whatever on you.

It'd suck to get ####ed for stereotypes caused by other peoples' wrongdoings. That's what we're all afraid of. No one's agreeing that the ricer kids are in the right and no one is supporting the shit they pull.

Why all the ricer bashing. Those cars from the pics they had in the article looked pretty tame. I know, I know most of the rice happens to perfectly good Honda's!!!

But the real issue is: Does the punishment fit the crime? Case in point: Paris Hilton gets 45 days for driving on a suspended license doing TWICE the posted speed limit and I understand it's not the first time - all from a DUI charge. While at the same time there's a guy in Georgia a 17 year old that was charged with a FELONY for getting a blow job from his 15 year old girlfriend - he's served over 23 months so far.

The guys in the article were from what I could gather convicted of drag racing. And they confiscate and then crush the car - I keep checking my calculator and 2+2 does not equal 5.

If you ask me this is just another example of the governments overreaching powers. They confiscate money and property associated with drug money. I saw a news report where they withdrew money from an ATM and over half of it had enough drug residue to test positive and perk the nose of a drug dog.

I'm just waiting for someone to link drag racing to 9/11 and the war on terrorism.

This is a ####ing joke, though not suprising coming from the great state of Kalifornia. What a garbage ass state. We need to just somehow detatch it from the rest of the country and be done with it.

Whats funny is how much trouble the state is making for itself being even thinking of imposing such a law. Tell me this: If you are street racing, wrong or right, and you have all of this money tied up into your pride and joy, when the cops turn on those lights and you KNOW your vehicle is getting crushed, are you going to just pull over? I know I wouldn't, I'm ####ing running, don't matter what happens after, I'm screwed anyhow, I'll just take whatever chance I can.

This is outragous, and is comparable to throwing a person who legally caries a conceled weapon in jail for murder. So, because he has the ABILITY to kill, he is automaticly guilty? So if I have the modification on my car that allows me to run 10 sec in the quarter mile, I'm guilty before I even street race? I call bullshit. So, if thats the case, I guess cars like Ferraris and Lambos should be crushed right off the showroom floor, they are cars capable of speeds way over legal limit as well, right?

Worthless state.

EDIT: My work filters alot of the stuff here, I think this story is in Canada. Regardless, California sucks.

thats not fair at all to say about all of california! this is taken place in SO CAL where they have a lot of deaths and problems with street racers like these KIDS. SO CAL can just be wack like that. My .02 cents is in the end...NORTHERN CALIFORNIA is the place to be and you can just bring your car over to laguna seca, race friends on less busy, dirty ass, congested places like in southern california. :thumb:

by the way...im from the bay area

I don't even know where to start. But let's start somewhere. I'll start first with the car crushing for all you people they think those people got what they desereve need their cars crushed and see how you feel then. I don't care who you are or what you say everyone has been on a public road and at least one time try to out race a car from one point to another no matter if it was for a few feet or a few miles but guess what that's consider street racing in every law book no matter what state you live in. And yes I know someone is going to say it's not so. Well how bout you go do it in front of a law officer and see if you don't get a ticket. Now someone is going to bring up well street racing had nothing to do with the owners car get crushed it's because they had stolen parts. Well if that's the case why don't we hear about any bmw roadsters or cadallic Escalades or lexus is300's getting crushed? They ae only some of the most popular stripped or stolen vehicles. So fire on ready to hear some replies on that.
Now let's get started on the honda ordeal. I love how people love to hate on hondas but never owned one. I own both a 1st gen eclipse that I been busting a$$ on that's fully built and a 94 civic coupe that's pretty built also. My civic has a run of the mill D16z6 sohc vtec that I built into a 253hp dyno proven terror. I have beaten plenty of mustang gt with cams and exhaust and blah and blah beaten cobras and saleens 94 - 98 models, camaros multiple yrs yes even the lovey older 60 models beaten other turbo charged dohc hondas , rx7's haven't raced a v8 swaped one but would be interesting, eclipses rs gs gst's and 2 gsx's and a corvette c5 with headers and exhaust never got to race a z06 but I would like to but anyways you get the point. I had a 18 and 0 record and still do with the civic when I put it down. Even to this day I still have people asking about that car. It was fully body kit with double stack ricer wing :p and 16 inch chrome rims. Everyone thought the car was a little toy till it was to late. A lot of you thinking 250 hp isn't nothing a base 2nd gen gst or gsx is 210hp well it's twice the weight also. A lot of people forget horsepower isn't everything. You have to equation in torque, weight, driver experience, suspesion, power band, the other person frame of mind, etc etc..... Lets take for example the bugatti veyron car is producing over a 1000 hp and called the fast production car ever made. Which is semi true. The 2003 corvette z06 had a 40,000 dollar option that would make the bugatti see tail lights. It was the only year you could get the option from the factory in the yrs to follow you had to go to the legend and his company to get the add on. Let's introduce the lingenfilter c5 z06 twin turbo monster about now producing 725 hp and running 0 to 60 in 1.9 secs compared to the veyron 0 - 60 in 2.5 and the lingenfilter quater mile in 9.5 secs compared to the veyron 10.2 sec quater and both using street tires. But back to point. As you can see it's not always horsepower that wins a race.
Well enough of my rambling. All I want to say in case and point it's not cool to crush someone hopes and dreams. Might need to research more into the story and see if all the people that had their cars crush had multiple valations or what. And don't be so quick to judge when someone with a honda say the could beat a corvette or something. How would you feel if someone laughed at you cause you said your eclipse could take a viper or a corvette?

Peace Out,
Nick

Maybe its just me but i know more people that have died from heroin then "street racing". I dont condone streetracing really at all but i think the government has their focus in the entirely wrong place.

I think crushing is QUITE extreme. There's a lot of other things you could do with those cars. Especially considering it's a hard earned kids car, retarded or not. It could at least go to a decent place.

OR, how about this. Take the car, either part it out for charity, OR take it out to a track and use it as a teaching aid. Lessons on how to drive on a track, or lessons on how to drive better period.

I dunno, i hate southern cali. It's really extremest, and a little fascist. "Me no like, me take away, you no get back *CRUUUUSH*"

I feel that repeat street racing offenders (3 or 2 if they are bad ones) should have their cars crushed no matter what. This should be spread across the nation to all the states as well.

Its not always Black and White. I live in Colorado Springs which is one of the largest Street Racing towns per capita. Cops are crazy here, my friend got pulled over for going the same speed as another car (yes they were speeding but only 5ish over) and was ticketed for street racing. Then two weeks later was pulled over and ticketed for racing because the officer HEARD them racing and never saw anything. According to all of your 2 or 3 time offenders he would have his car crushed.

it all boils down to people are dieing and the tax payers are wanting action. So what do the cops do bust anybody remotely looks like there racing. I don't live in California nor have i ever been but I've heard racing is a real problem over there along with stolen parts. This is just the cops way of trying to fix things. We can all say they should of done this they should of done that but when it all comes down to it this is what there doing so now you gotta just add another thing to think about when ordering parts or driving in convoys with your buddys some were. just my .02

Your right on the money s15Civic.

Read back in the thread and see where I state that my mechanic has a civic that will beat my 98 GSX and I suggested everyone to look at my mods - pretty extensive.

I got no replies about that. Funny how when a fellow DSMer admits to being beat by a "ricer" no one has anything to say.

As to the ricer moniker: I personally think that a rat rod or street rod (which came to fame in SOCAL) are nothing more than rice for old guys.

Yes, when I see an 89 Accord with an aluminum wing on or an 87 Camaro with an aluminum wing (which I have) I laugh my ASS OFF. Then I go by them and see that it's some young kid that has no clue and learned his "style" from whatever stupid ass magazine that features useless (I say useless, because to me if you can't drive it on the street without a fleet of detailers, it's useless) showcars. And the movies haven't helped.

How does this all relate to the topic at hand, well this kind of perception, stereotyping, racism, profiling - whatever you want to call it - may be lending itself to the problem. If from what I'm reading on this site about Honda's and street racers is in anyway indication of the cops' attitude, just imgaine if some of these guys on this site had the power the cops do when it comes to Honda's or whatever.

Whether you like it or not the whole "street racing" is a true "scene", just like the hippies of the 60's, the tree huggers of the 70's, the yuppies of the 80's and the slackers of the 90's.

Someone needs to come up with a way to eliminate this problem. It seems obvious, a racetrack right? Well several attempts have been made to get a strip here in Des Moines all have failed because of guess what LIABILITY issues. They recently built a racetrack (for NASCAR) in Newton, Iowa (about 35 miles east of Des Moines) and on Friday nights you can there and run an 1/8th mile. AN 1/8th. And kids are flocking there. Just think if they had a 1/4 mile and a decent road coarse.

Hear!!! Hear!!! I agree!!! As many of you said guys in Vetts do it approx same weight as ours but far more power yet they WILL NOT SEE A CRUSHER no matter what they do Impound yes Crusher NOOO And why because a few Docs Judges and or Law Makers have em.
If ya live near one take a video camera and follow him I bet he/she goes over the limit and send the copies to local stations and see if it get's played put it on you tube too boot!

Question: What is street racing? Is it like the guys did in FF movie and go down an abandon and or quite street? Or does it include the freeway jousting we all do?

If I am doing slightly above the speed limit to stay with the flow of traffic will I be accused of racing the guy next to me that I don't even know?

I really think this is comming from the American auto industry paying off and or buy the lawmakers a drink or two to hassle us to the point of buying American!

True a few guys have done things that have sent people to an early grave, yet I cannot remember many American cars being hassled as much as Imports.

And yet Kalifornia allowes cars with massive horsepower to be sold through out the state and they (The Crooked Lawmkers) have the power to force a guy to have his car horsepower reduced through reprogaming his ECU by way of law and or banning the sale of cars with big numbers on the speed od.

I don't think these guys have a case (I know these guys have a case!) I think the Constitution speaks of excessive punishment and I hope that they take it ti court in fact I'll even send the guys lawers cash to do it all they hafta do is send out a call and may wallets open

:tease: Just to send a message to Lawmkers, Judges, Cops (Which all should be sued to the tune of millions) that the Kalifornia justice system is NOT ABOVE THE LAW!

There was a Doctor who's wife got killed because she hit the rear of a simi and he took Kalifornia to court and I think they had to pay because there was no word of it since, the law states trucks are to run slower than otheer cars 55mph and we truckers have said for years it is unsafe yet Kalifornia rakes in the doe the cops look like they have a life and the public is stupid enough to believe it'a safe What a Joke!

You don't see em crushing trucks for speeding do ya??? Too much money in them trailers and a truck cost approx 100 grand easy and the cost of the freight PRICELESS!!! :D

Now I know truckers are not street racing but the bottom line is in fact SPEEDING!!! WTF

I say don't waste the car by crushing it. Sell the car at auction and give the money to charity. Crushing them is like throwing money down the drain.

My thoughts exactly they could make money out of this instead of nothing. Of course they probably figure if they sell the cars as is, they are just going to end up back on the road racing

If your Paris hilton, you get a 1million deal after serving half of your original 45day jail sentance.

What if they crushed cars for DUI's???? I would love to see how cali would respond?

^^That IMO would be much better, crush repeat offenders cars. You here about a lot more drinking/driving deaths than racing deaths

There's an avid street racing community in my neck of the woods but no actual race track. I'm sure if a legal option was available, illegal street racing would stop. Just my .02 cents :thumb:

It wouldn't stop it, there's always street racing. Regardless of age, gear heads that come upon a race do often take it. Sure those are just by chance races and they don't go looking for them or setting up races, but it still happens. Hell I met a 50 year old woman a few years ago who had a ford couple like the one in american graffiti and she was tellin me about having a camaro pull up to her at a light and rev and when the light turned green she smoked his ass ROFL

You know not all Police Deparments play the same way. Where I live there are three jurisdictions in a small space, the police, sherrif and state patrol. The police will ticket you, red flag your car and you go to court where they usually cut the charges/fines in half. The Sherrif in many cases will warn you and just give you a speeding ticket. The State Patrol however will take your license on the spot, impound your car and make you walk home/duh get a ride. Since the problem in So Cal is so HUGE this is how their handling it, extreme, yes but its an EXTREME situation.
