ok i just replaced my crank pully on my 90 tsi awd, 6 bolt motor, and the pully is from a 7 bolt made in 95. ok was this a bad mistake, because it sounds like something is hitting something. i thought it was a spun bearing at first but its not a rythimic knock it more of a random thing, its kinda bad at start up and then when it idles down it dosnt do it at all then when at idle it will randomly do it like clunk.... ...... clunk clunk......... clunk..............clunk.........

thats over a minute time perioud... like spaced out... sooo any suggestions? should i stop being lazy and just get a pully for an 90-91 or what? would this drive 20 miles to the shop and be good without messing up my crankshaft?

so please some one throw me some good news. i dont care if i got to replace the pully thats cheap, but having to re bearing it, thats a different story.

The crank pulley will not affect the crank if it fails. It just drives the accessory belts. Sounds like the last one is bad too. Might want to replace it.

what last one is bad? i mean it wasnt knocking when i broke the pully, all i heard was the noise of the pully slaping around. sooo idk still need help

Didnt they change part numbers on 6-bolt to 7 bolt underdrive pulley's? I believed the 6 bolt one was smaller and didnt stick out as far.

yea, i just bought an OEM one a few weeks ago and even mitsubishi said it was the same for all years on teh 2.0 turbo.

ok but would this cause a knocking noise? my motor was good until i put the 2g pully on and now it knocks. but yea the 2g pully looks different than the 1g. that shoulda gave it away.
