connecting rod caps

i am torquing the connecting rod caps and the only manual that i have available to me right now is a hains manual. it says to torq them to 14.4 then an additional 90 degrees.
this is for a 1994 engine.
the whole 90 degree thing seems so unprecise to me.

And just torque-to-bend or torque-to-click seems more accureate?

Torque-to-angle is fairly common anymore. Lisle makes a gauge that goes on your wrench for doing it.

Don't reuse TTY hardware, replace them.

Its perfectly fine ... I like to start the ratchet parallel with the block and then end up perpendicular when I'm done. It helps a little bit to have some sort of guideline imo.
