Vaughan,
Just wondering what everyone thinks of the new beautiful twin turbo BMW 335i?

Vishnu has had some amazing results already with minor ecu work. Over 400 lbs torque to the rear wheels. Its an amazing car. we will just have to see if bmw starts voiding warranties on modded ones.

Sitting in and driving both, I'd opt for the M6 actually. The paddle shifters are much more convenient, and the interior layout is pretty luxery..

I am purchasing the new 335xi when it debuts in may sometime. production of the AWD 335 starts in march, no one wants you to know that from the dealership but i told them they only way i was buying one was if it was AWD. i have my name already in a slot for one of the first 335xi's off the line. White, sport package, 4dr, no drilling for the plates on the front, black leather interior. These cars make amazing power, the combination of two tiny turbo's with a 3.0 was brilliant. I prefer the 4dr over the 2 dr but that is just me. and they are coming out with a convertible as well, only for the 2dr. you said you prefer the m6 which is good an all but you are not comparing the same car at that point. any m car is better than the series car. My friend already has a 335 with some basic mods. intake, full exhaust, and is currently raising the boost. he also has the RFL BOV. a little excessive for me but thats what you get when your tribal and have more money than god himself.
there are a lot of little things with these 335's that when i first drove i loved. first thing was the brakes, amazing grabbing force. very touchy but in a good way. the blinkers also do not click down or up. you push them up or down and it returns to its normal place and the blinker stays on for 5 or 6 seconds. no more riding down the highway with a blinker on. when the car gets put in reverse, the side mirrors fold down so you can see where you are backing into. the gears are close together as well, was great for slamming gears on my test drive. the car itself feels great cornering as well. it never felt like it was going to slide out from under me.
as far as in the interior goes, its ok. a little basic for such a high price tag, 42-45k. mercedes wins in the interior class, the c230 looks great. but then again in this bmw you are always looking ahead because its hard to keep off the throttle

overall- bmw is called the ultimate driving machine for a reason, they nailed it on this one.

The new coupe cts-v that is supposed to come out will own it... Hahahaha, I love the bimmer though.

beautiful machine.

Still not sold on the new Banger 3-series design, but that's because I love the E46 design. I've been told that there isn't any room for bigger turbos so you'll be limited to whatever power the stock ones can put down unless you have tons of cash to throw at some crazy fab work. Not that they're lacking power but don't think that just because they're factory turbocharged that we'll see DSM-like power coming out of them anytime soon without a huge checkbook.

Yea i was looking at some other engine bay pics of this car.. .and Didn't look like you could even fit your hand in there.

Still a pretty good for what it is... just not for someone who likes to mod cars.

tell me about it, changing oils on them are a pain in the ass already, it has more skid plates than a jeep.

Our 2000 328i (E46, Luda :) ) does that. The first time it happened, all I heard was the motor whining and didn't know what it was. I never use the passenger side mirror for backing up. Then when I put it back into Drive, I saw the mirror going back to it's set position. Weird. BMW thinks of just about everything.

Of course, all that thinking comes at quite a price when you go into the dealership for basic service. I thought Mitsubishi was expensive, till I owned a Bimmer. OMG

And having driven this RWD car in a Wisconsin winter, I wish we would have held out for a 330xi. 30 more horsepower and AWD. :(

They are already making over 400/400 with pretty minor remapping and minor boltons. Thats a lot more than 90% of the dsm's out there and the car has only been on the street for less than a year.

Also since when does the turbo itself have to get huge to make more power. Look at the 20g vs the 14b. These things are going to be monsters once the rest of the tuning community catches on and starts playing with them.

When, exactly, did manufacturers start being ashamed of how their engines look?

I'm still not warmed to BMW's new headlight styling. But it looks as though the back end doesn't look like crap.

Ah, but I still miss the 2002. But not as much as a good 510.

It looks okay, not as horrid as the Bangle'd up 7-series and 5-series, but I'd rather plop down the extra cash (if I had it) for an Audi RS4. Just something about a factory V8 with an 8K redline makes me tingly all over.

I saw this on the "AutoTrader.com Drive" show where they visited the LA Auto Show '07 yesterday. Hopefully they'll give us some specific specs in the near future.

Yea, I was thinking exactly that... Why do most new cars hide the engine? And 510s are dope!

I'm not saying that the aftermarket won't latch on to it, it's a BMW. And I never said it didn't make good hp for a factory car. But it comes with just over 300hp to begin with doesn't it? So getting 400 out of it isn't necessarily a "big" jump seeing as though it's boosted from the factory. It's nothing to sneeze at, but my point wasn't about how easily it will jump up 100hp, it was about it's hp potential.

The point I was making was that the car probably isn't going to have monster hp potential simply because it's factory turbocharged like some people think. You probably won't be able to strap on bigger turbos (which is a very popular thing to do to turbo cars by the way) and put down huge numbers. That's all... sheesh. And by the way, 90% of the DSMs out there these days are owned by people with no money to put into them - not because DSMs can't make power easily.

Please, everyone who loves this car - no need to jump all over me for this.

Speeking of engine space, did anyone see new the new M5 with a twin remote mount turbo system? I'll post pictures and the website when I get home. It's making around 800hp and that my friends, is pretty freaking serious.

OMG!
That thing is very nice. I've always loved the M series for obvious reasons.

Jesus...They're gonna need to yank the engine out to change the power steering fluid...

Ya know Luda...they could do a single turbo swap, depending on where they're mounted of coarse. Could be the next supra in a coating of expensive. Anyone found an under engine shot?

I wanna see someone hit a rock just right on that oil feed line... Bye bye turbos....

IslandTSI, 400whp isn't much. And people like me need larger turbos to make up for other things. Sometimes a 14b will not do the trick. :thumb:

400 whp is still more than 95% of the cars out there. And when all it takes is some ecu work to do it, its pretty f'in sweet.

500/600 will be normal for these cars in the near future I say

pshaw

This is how a rear turbo car should look
